The Role
An Events Driver & Porter plays a vital role in the successful delivery of our events. This is not solely a driving role — while you will be responsible for driving company vehicles to and from venues, you will also work as a porter both on‑site at events and within the warehouse as operational requirements dictate.
You will be responsible for the safe transportation of catering equipment, furniture, beverages, and event supplies, together with assisting in the set‑up, operation, and breakdown of events. Physical fitness is essential, as the role involves manual handling and standing for long periods.
Responsibilities
Driving Duties
- Safely drive both 3.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne company vehicles to and from event venues, ensuring full compliance with road safety legislation and company transport policies.
- Conduct thorough daily vehicle safety checks before departure, reporting defects immediately and ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy at all times.
- Ensure vehicles are loaded safely, securely, and legally, following all manual handling policies, safe‑lifting techniques, and load‑bearing guidelines to prevent injury and equipment damage.
- Secure cages, equipment, and stock using straps, pallet wrap, and other load‑restraint systems to prevent movement during transit.
- Deliver equipment to venues on schedule, maintaining professional communication with the warehouse and event teams regarding timings and delays.
- Park vehicles safely and in accordance with venue instructions, ensuring access routes remain clear and safe for staff and guests.
- Return vehicles to the warehouse, ensuring they are clean, locked, and plugged in (where applicable), and that all equipment is unloaded and accounted for.
- Comply fully with all driving regulations, including tachograph use, CPC requirements, driver hours rules, and company safety procedures.
Event Porter Duties
- Assist with unloading and loading vehicles using safe manual handling techniques, ensuring equipment is moved efficiently without risk to yourself or others.
- Set up temporary kitchens and back‑of‑house areas, positioning catering equipment, tables, ovens, hot cupboards, and service equipment accurately according to event plans.
- Support chefs and front‑of‑house teams with operational tasks, including equipment placement, stock movement, and service preparation.
- Operate the clearing station during service, maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and safe working conditions throughout the event.
- Keep kitchen and back‑of‑house areas clean, tidy, and hazard‑free, ensuring spills, waste, and obstructions are dealt with promptly.
- Remove waste safely and responsibly, following recycling and disposal procedures.
- Pack equipment safely at the end of the event, ensuring items are clean, accounted for, and loaded correctly to minimise damage during transport.
- Wear the correct uniform and PPE at all times, including protective clothing when handling chemicals or heavy equipment.
Warehouse Duties
- Prepare equipment for upcoming events, ensuring items are clean, functional, and packed according to event specifications.
- Load and unload vehicles using safe lifting techniques and equipment, ensuring stock is handled carefully and stored correctly.
- Clean and maintain catering equipment, reporting any faults or damage to management promptly.
- Organise and store stock in designated areas, maintaining a tidy, safe, and efficient warehouse environment.
- Assist with stock counts, deliveries, and collections, ensuring accurate record‑keeping and safe handling of goods.
- Carry out general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant warehouse space.
- Undertake any other reasonable warehouse duties as directed by management.
Working Hours and Conditions
This is a full‑time role based on a 40‑hour week. Hours may include weekends and public holidays, with additional hours available depending on event schedules. You may be required to work at sinks, loading bays, or event sites for extended periods.
