Job Description – Kitchen Manager / Chef
St Katharine’s Parmoor (owned and operated by the Sue Ryder Prayer Fellowship [SRPF]) is a retreat house where people feel peacefully at home and where everyone feels they have a part to play in creating a warm Christian welcome. It is a haven for quiet reflection for people of all faiths and none.
It provides;
· a venue for meetings and retreats for all who need it;
· Christian home comforts for residents and visitors alike;
· an environment where everyone feels valued, where their talents are fully utilised and where the Charity’s goals can be met fully.
It also aims to reflect on the legacy of Sue Ryder and the Sisters of St Katharine’s, of whose ambitions we are guardians.
Main Responsibilities –Kitchen Manager / Chef
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day provision of excellent quality food within the price constraints of the charity and build upon the high reputation of the kitchen. To manage the staff in the kitchen ensuring they have the highest standard of food safety and hygiene and to manage costs and ensure budgets are adhered to.
Duties - Kitchen Manager / Chef (not an exhaustive list)
- Producing food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the guests at set mealtimes.
- Produce food for guests with special dietary requirements.
- Liaising with, and making use of produce from, the Lady Ryder Memorial Garden.
- Maintaining compliance with all food safety requirements.
- Exemplary levels of personal hygiene.
- Minimise food wastage.
- Work alongside and give clear and concise instruction to other staff.
- Work well within the team, whilst being able to take individual responsibility.
- To carry out such other tasks as may from time to time be reasonably required by the Manager of St Katharine’s.
Other responsibilities and duties
- To always comply with the policies and procedures of the SRPF.
- To wear the appropriate uniform, to ensure that it is clean, and to always be aware of the importance of personal hygiene.
- To undertake any relevant training that may be identified from time to time.
Hours
· Our workload is varied and depends on guest numbers and events, as well as other staff availability. Start and finish times can therefore vary from day to day but will be planned in advance.
· The usual mealtimes are – Breakfast - 8:30am, Lunch - 12:30pm and Supper - 6:00pm
Person Specification
Our guests value the St Katharine’s Parmoor environment as a place of retreat. Our kitchen team play an important part in our hospitality & serve our guests so they can focus on their time here.
Skills, Abilities & Personal Attributes
A background in a commercial kitchen is an advantage and it is desirable if you have experience of working in a similar role in a hotel, restaurant, or café environment but this is not essential.
It’s all about what you can bring as a person. You’ll need to demonstrate experience and skills that show you:-
- Have a qualification or awareness of food hygiene procedures (training can be given).
- Are prepared to work in a role that requires you to be physically active through your shift.
- Can remain calm under pressure.
- Have great planning and organising skills.
- Can produce fresh and tasty food.

- Flexibility of days or hours worked may be required to accommodate holidays or special events.
- All employees are required to abide by the Safeguarding policy, Health & Safety policies, GDPR and other SRPF Policies.
- Due to our location in rural Buckinghamshire, it is an advantage if you have your own transport to travel to and from St Katharine’s, Parmoor. There maybe an option to ‘live-in’. Further details available on request.
- Be prepared to undertake First Aid training.
Pay: £14.26-£16.73 per hour
