About the Role
We’re looking for a reliable, confident and customer-focused Night Porter to join our team.
This is a varied and hands-on role, taking responsibility for providing excellent service to our guests while helping to keep the hotel safe, secure, clean and well prepared throughout the night.
You’ll assist late-arriving and early-departing guests, carry out security and fire checks, set up conference and event rooms, undertake cleaning tasks and respond to any issues or emergencies that arise overnight.
As you will be working with limited supervision for periods of the night, you’ll need to be comfortable working independently, using your judgement and remaining calm when dealing with unexpected situations.
Hours & Pay:
- Contract: Permanent
- Hours: 5 nights out of 7 - 11pm to 7am
- Pay per hour: £13.40
Please note: we do not have live-in accommodation.
What You'll be doing
- Welcoming and assisting late-arriving and early-departing guests
- Supporting check-ins and check-outs, processing payments and handling luggage
- Providing friendly and professional guest service throughout the night
- Carrying out regular security, fire and safety checks around the hotel
- Acting as a designated responsible person/Fire Marshal and responding appropriately to emergencies
- Setting up, clearing and resetting conference, meeting and banqueting rooms
- Operating the residents' bar when required
- Completing end-of-day cash-up procedures
- Carrying out cleaning and deep-cleaning tasks in public areas
- Dealing with basic maintenance issues within your training and competence
- Ensuring an accurate handover to the day team
What We're Looking For
- Previous hotel, hospitality or Night Porter experience is preferred but not essential
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- A friendly, professional and approachable manner
- Confidence working independently and using your own initiative
- Ability to remain calm, use sound judgement and follow procedures during emergencies or challenging situations
- Good organisation skills and attention to detail
- Basic IT skills and confidence using online systems
- Reliability, excellent timekeeping and flexibility
- Availability to work night shifts from 11pm to 7am
- Ability to undertake the physical requirements of this active role, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate. This includes regular walking and security patrols, periods of standing, handling luggage and supplies, and moving tables, chairs and other conference equipment
- First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain one
- A full driving licence and access to your own transport would be beneficial but is not essential
