Commis Chef
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Pastures Lodge & Hotel. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their culinary skills in a busy kitchen, working alongside experienced chefs preparing fresh food for our restaurant, carvery, weddings, functions and events.
As a Commis Chef, you will assist with food preparation, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and help ensure every guest receives a great dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation and cooking of menu items.
- Preparing ingredients including vegetables, salads, sauces and garnishes.
- Supporting the senior chefs during service.
- Ensuring food is prepared to company standards and recipes.
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation.
- Following all food safety and HACCP procedures.
- Correctly storing and rotating stock using FIFO procedures.
- Assisting with deliveries and stock storage.
- Keeping kitchen equipment clean and in good working order.
- Helping with cleaning duties at the end of each shift.
- Working across restaurant service, carvery, weddings and functions as required.
- Supporting colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Reporting any maintenance or health and safety concerns to the Head Chef or Sous Chef.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties requested by the kitchen management team.

- Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential.
- A genuine passion for food and hospitality.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.

Shifts will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Flexibility is essential due to the nature of the hospitality industry.
Pay: Up to £12.71 per hour
