Electrical Substation Site Manager – Sudbury

Active (Pathways) Solutions is looking for an experienced Electrical Substation Site Manager to work on a 132kV substation project in Sudbury.
This is a small project that is already around 80% complete, but with a very tight programme and no float. We are looking for a properly electrically biased Site Manager with strong substation experience who can make decisions on site, think on their feet and drive the project through to completion.
Monday - Friday, 35-45 hours per week, with weekends available if required.

Pay rate: £550 per day
Payment: LTD or CIS
Must have extensive electrical substation experience, with a strong electrical bias and the ability to manage works through to handover under significant time pressure.
Duties and responsibilities of the role
- Managing the electrical works on a small 132kV substation project
- Taking responsibility for the electrical installation and ensuring works are completed safely and to programme
- Managing and coordinating electrical teams and subcontractors on site
- Coordinating the installation and wiring of approximately 6-7 panels due for delivery on 07/09
- Driving the completion of panel installation and wiring within a two-week programme
- Coordinating with EHV, who are responsible for the primary installation
- Coordinating with Rock/Pathways electrical installation teams
- Managing up to 8 electricians being brought onto site from w/c 07/09
- Ensuring the remaining panel-to-panel cable loops and electrical works are completed efficiently
- Working closely with commissioning teams ahead of commissioning commencing w/c 14/09
- Liaising with the client, contractors, engineers and other site management
- Managing civils contractors completing variations and snagging works
- Making decisions quickly and effectively to keep the project moving
- Identifying and resolving issues before they impact the programme
- Ensuring all works are completed safely, correctly and to the required standard
- Maintaining progress against an extremely tight programme with no available float
- Working additional hours and weekends where required to meet project deadlines
- Driving the project towards final completion and handover
Skills and attributes (desirable)
We are looking for someone who is experienced, decisive and electrically biased, with a strong background in substation and electrical infrastructure projects.
- Extensive electrical substation Site Management experience
- Strong experience working on 132kV substations
- Strong electrical bias – this is essential
- Previous experience managing electrical installation teams
- Experience coordinating panel installation, wiring and cable works
- Ability to manage multiple contractors and trades on a live site
- Strong understanding of electrical construction and commissioning
- Able to make decisions quickly and confidently on site
- Excellent programme and time management skills
- Able to work under significant time pressure
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Reliable, organised and proactive
- Strong commitment to health and safety and quality
- Able to work additional hours and weekends when required
About you
You must be a proper electrically biased Site Manager with proven experience managing electrical substation projects.
This is not a role for someone who simply has general Site Manager experience. The successful candidate needs to understand the electrical works, be able to make decisions on site and have the experience to drive the project through to handover with very little time available.
The project is already around 80% complete, with approximately 90% of the cabling pulled. The remaining works are largely focused around the new panels, final wiring and completion of the electrical installation.
The programme is extremely tight, with commissioning due to commence w/c 14/09/2026. There is no float in the programme, so we need someone who can hit the ground running, manage the workforce effectively and get the job finished without unnecessary delays.
You must be available to start immediately and be able to provide relevant references demonstrating previous substation Site Management experience.
