About the Role
We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Assistant Cook to join our friendly nursery team. Working alongside our Head Cook, you will help provide nutritious, balanced and appealing meals for up to 101 children aged 6 months to 5 years.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys preparing healthy food for young children and takes pride in maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and food preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, preparing and cooking nutritious meals that meet the dietary needs of young children.
- Support the Head Cook in the preparation, cooking, serving and presentation of meals and snacks throughout the day.
- Independently prepare, cook and serve afternoon teas in line with the nursery menu.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and health and safety standards at all times.
- Assist with food ordering, stock control and the correct storage of supplies.
- Help maintain kitchen equipment and resources to a high standard.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and carers to promote a positive nursery environment.
- Attend team meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities.
- Keep up to date with current food hygiene, nutrition and health and safety legislation.
- Support the day-to-day running of the kitchen and, when required, provide cover for the Cook during periods of absence.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate (or RIPHH equivalent).
- Has experience working in a kitchen environment.
- Understands the nutritional needs of young children.
- Has excellent standards of cleanliness and food safety.
- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently when required.
- Enjoys working as part of a team.
- Has good communication skills and a positive, flexible approach.

About Claremont Nursery Co-operative
Claremont Nursery Co-operative is a community-based nursery run as a Neighbourhood Co-operative. All staff and parent/carers are members of the Co-operative and work together to create a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment for children and families.
As part of our co-operative ethos, staff are expected to attend four quarterly Open Meetings each year, which are usually held in the evening.
