An exciting opportunity for a Senior Nursery Nurse/Room Leader has become available at Sinfin Community Childcare Nursery based in Sheridan Street within Sinfin.
We are looking for a dedicated, friendly, enthusiastic and hard working individual to come and lead our team within our Baby Unit.
Applicants must be qualified and hold CACHE Level 3, NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in Childcare.
THE KEY DETAILS
- Hours per week: 32-40 hours a week, all year round
- Hours of work: shifts between 7:15am-6.15pm
- Pay: £14 per hour, increasing to £14.60 from April 2026
- Reports to: Nursery Management
- Location: Sheridan Street, Sinfin, Derby, DE24 9HG
- Requirements: Level 3 Qualification in childcare and education (or equivalent). Would also consider an experienced Level 2 Qualified applicant. You must have at least 2 years qualified childcare experience.
Working Patterns
- Our room seniors work a minimum of 32 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
- Our working hours are shift basis between 7.15am and 6.15pm
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required due to staff meetings, training or conferences, however these are always arranged in advance and either time back or overtime is given.
Main purpose of position
- To support and provide inclusive teaching and learning opportunities for all children attending Sinfin Community Childcare.
- To support staff in organising the environment inside and out to ensure resources and equipment are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the individual children in the room. These activities will take into account children’s abilities, interests, language and cultural backgrounds.
- To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for all children which is enjoyable and enriches their learning, growth and development
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This role involves the supervision of all staff, students and visitors who work as part of the team.
- Be responsible for the day to day running of the room, supervision and deployment of the staff within your designated room.
- To work closely with the management team within the Nursery.
This role includes:
- To be a proactive member of a staff team who provide a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment in which all children are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
- To a lead and deal with any situations regarding any element of the smooth running of the unit.
- To provide high quality care for all children at all times and to set a high standard as an example for less senior staff and students.
- To ensure you use and fully understand the EYFS Requirements and Framework and Characteristics of learning in helping to provide teaching and learning opportunities to individual and groups of children.
- Ensure Welfare and Safeguarding Children procedures are followed and you know what to do in the event of an allegation being made.
- To ensure that clean and hygienic standards are maintained at all times. This includes daily cleaning rotas, nappy changing and other nursery/housekeeping duties.
- To provide a safe environment by being aware at all times of the dangers and appropriate preventative measures.
- Lead the planning and development of inspiring, enabling environments where children initiate play.
- To liaise closely with parents/carers informing them about the setting and its curriculum, exchanging information about the child’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
- Oversee all your designated staff teams children’s assessments. Be responsible for a small key group, preparing, maintaining and completing children’s assessment.
- Act as the designated responsible person at times when the childcare Manager and Deputy Manager may not be available.
- To communicate effectively and regularly with Nursery Management.
- To attend all mandatory training sessions, workshops, staff meetings, professional development training, parent evenings, open evenings and any other events as requested by your Nursery Management.
