Make a real difference through retail.
Are you an experienced retail manager with a passion for delivering excellent customer service and leading successful teams? Would you like to use your skills to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and families across Wales?
We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Shop Manager to lead our busy Whitchurch charity shop. This is an exciting opportunity to drive sales, inspire volunteers and create a welcoming shopping experience, while helping to raise vital funds that support children and families living with cerebral palsy.
Every donation, purchase and Gift Aid declaration made in our shops helps fund specialist therapy and family support provided by Cerebral Palsy Cymru.
What you'll be doing
As Shop Manager, you'll take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running and performance of the shop. You'll lead a team of staff and volunteers to create an inviting, well-presented shop that delivers excellent customer service and achieves its income targets.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, motivating and supporting staff and volunteers to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
- Driving sales, Gift Aid income and shop performance to achieve agreed targets.
- Managing stock from donation through to sale, ensuring excellent merchandising, stock rotation and presentation.
- Creating attractive displays that encourage sales and reflect Cerebral Palsy Cymru's values.
- Using sales information, EPOS reports and local knowledge to identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Recruiting, training and developing volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed, supported and valued.
- Managing shop administration accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinating staff rotas and annual leave to ensure effective shop cover.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, security and compliance.
- Building positive relationships with customers, donors, volunteers and the local community.
- Supporting wider retail initiatives and, where required, providing cover in other Cerebral Palsy Cymru shops.
About you
We're looking for someone who enjoys leading people, thrives in a busy retail environment and is passionate about making a difference.
You'll ideally have:
- Significant retail management experience (charity retail experience is desirable but not essential).
- Experience of managing, motivating and developing staff and/or volunteers.
- A strong track record of delivering excellent customer service.
- Experience working towards sales targets, budgets or performance measures.
- Good merchandising and stock management skills.
- Confidence using sales information or EPOS systems to improve performance.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A positive, proactive and flexible approach.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- An understanding of the important role volunteers play within charity retail.
- A commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for customers, volunteers and colleagues.
This is a physical role and will involve manual handling, including moving donations and stock.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous, as occasional travel to our other charity shops may be required.
Why join Cerebral Palsy Cymru?
This is much more than a retail management role.
You'll be joining a friendly and supportive charity where your work has a direct impact on children and families living with cerebral palsy across Wales. Every successful day in your shop helps fund specialist therapy, family support and life-changing services.
We offer:
- 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 days after 5 years' service and 34 days after 10 years' service)
- Company sick pay
- Company pension scheme
- Training and professional development opportunities
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Wellbeing and mental health support
- A collaborative and supportive working environment
- The opportunity to make a genuine difference through your work
