DEPUTY MANAGER - Outstanding EBD/CSE Home
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week (including shift work, weekends, sleep-ins and on-call duties where required)
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced, passionate and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in leading a high-quality children's residential home.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring children receive safe, nurturing and therapeutic care while supporting staff to deliver the highest standards of practice.
The Deputy Manager will support the day-to-day management of the home, provide leadership to the staff team, maintain regulatory compliance and help create an environment where children can thrive, develop and achieve their full potential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership and Management
- Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.
- Support the overall management and operation of the home.
- Lead shifts effectively and provide guidance and support to staff.
- Promote a positive, child-centred culture throughout the home.
- Assist with recruitment, induction and retention of staff.
- Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals and performance reviews.
- Support workforce planning and rota management.
- Lead team meetings and reflective practice sessions.
- Address poor practice promptly and professionally.
- Support the continuous development of the service.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture throughout the home.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, reported and escalated appropriately.
- Support safeguarding investigations and multi-agency working.
- Monitor risks and ensure safeguarding plans remain effective.
- Ensure incidents are managed appropriately and recorded accurately.
- Support compliance with safeguarding legislation and guidance.
Children's Care and Development
- Ensure children receive high-quality care that meets their individual needs.
- Support the development and review of care plans, risk assessments and placement plans.
- Promote positive relationships and therapeutic approaches to care.
- Ensure children's wishes, feelings and views are actively listened to and acted upon.
- Support children to achieve positive outcomes in education, health, independence and emotional wellbeing.
- Monitor progress and celebrate achievements.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Support compliance with Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Complete audits and monitoring activities.
- Review records and ensure documentation is accurate and of a high standard.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement action plans.
- Support inspection readiness and continuous service improvement.
Multi-Agency Working
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with:
- Social Workers
- Independent Reviewing Officers
- Education Providers
- Health Professionals
- Police
- Families and Carers
- Other relevant agencies
- Attend reviews, meetings and professional forums as required.
- Advocate for children and ensure their needs are effectively represented.
Health, Safety and Medication
- Support the safe management of medication systems.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are met.
- Promote a safe and welcoming living environment.
- Support investigations into incidents, accidents and medication errors.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years' experience working within a Children's Residential Home.
- Experience in a Senior Residential Support Worker or Team Leader position.
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation and practice.
- Experience of leading shifts and supporting staff teams.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong report writing and recording abilities.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs.
- Experience preparing for Ofsted inspections.
- Experience completing audits and quality assurance activities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
