Podiatrist (Self-Employed) — Autonomy & Flexibility Across Care Homes & GP Practices
- Ideal for: Experienced HCPC-registered Podiatrists looking for autonomy and control over their working week
- Location: Belfast & surrounding areas
- Pay: £12 per appointment (self-employed) — typically £20–£24+ per hour depending on caseload volume and setting
- Contract type: Self-employed / independent contractor
- Hours: Flexible — from 1 day a week up to full-time, by mutual agreement
About the role
BeThrively is expanding community podiatry services across Belfast, working across care homes, nursing homes and GP practices. We're looking for an experienced, HCPC-registered Podiatrist to join us on a self-employed basis — running your own clinics, managing a varied high-risk caseload, and shaping how a growing community service develops.
This isn't a single-site clinic role. You'll move across care home and GP-based settings, working autonomously with minimal oversight, and with real input into how the service expands across Northern Ireland.
In care home settings, appointments are typically quick — often 5 to 20 minutes each — and take place across a single site, so there's no travel between patients during a session.
GP practice sessions tend to involve a more varied caseload and pace. Effective hourly earnings scale with caseload volume, which you have significant control over given the flexible structure.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering podiatry assessments and treatments across care homes and GP-based clinics
- Managing a varied caseload including routine podiatry, diabetic foot care and high-risk patients
- Treating nail conditions, corns, callus, verrucae and thickened nails
- Conducting comprehensive foot health assessments and identifying early signs of deterioration
- Developing preventative treatment plans to reduce ulceration, falls and avoidable complications
- Recognising clinical red flags and referring appropriately to GPs or specialist services
- Providing foot health education to patients, carers and healthcare professionals
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and ensuring HCPC and GDPR compliance
- Building relationships with GP practices, care homes and multidisciplinary teams, and helping establish new clinics as the service grows
What you'll need to bring
As this is a self-employed role, you'll be responsible for:
- HCPC registration as a Podiatrist, with experience managing high-risk and diabetic caseloads independently
- Your own clinical equipment and consumables
- Professional indemnity insurance (own policy)
- Enhanced Access NI / DBS clearance (own cost — we can advise on the process)
- Your own transport — a full UK driving licence is preferred, as you'll travel between sites on days that involve more than one location; please note we do not currently cover mileage or travel expenses
- Managing your own tax and National Insurance as a sole trader or through a limited company
We're happy to talk through the practicalities — including realistic caseload volumes and how pay works in practice — on a call before you apply.
What you'll get in return
- Genuine autonomy — manage your own clinics and treatment approach with minimal oversight
- Flexibility — work 1 day a week or build toward full-time, on your own schedule
- A voice in a growing service — direct input into how our podiatry offering, and potentially new clinic locations, develop as we expand across Northern Ireland
- Variety — no two days look the same, across care homes and GP settings
- A supportive team — you're self-employed, but not on your own; our clinical team is on hand for collaboration when useful
About you
- HCPC-registered Podiatrist with experience managing high-risk and diabetic caseloads
- Confident working independently across multiple community settings
- Comfortable with the self-employed model and its responsibilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with GPs, care staff and multidisciplinary teams
- Full UK driving licence and own transport (preferred)
