Commis Chef / Kitchen Assistant
The Pack Saddle at Mapledurham – Reading, Berkshire
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Commis Chef / Kitchen Assistant to join our kitchen team at The Pack Saddle at Mapledurham.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing a career in the kitchen. You will work closely with and learn from our Head Chef, helping with food preparation and gradually taking on more cooking responsibilities as your skills and confidence develop.
This is a hands-on, all-round kitchen role. Alongside assisting the chef, you must also be willing to help with pot washing, cleaning and maintaining a tidy, hygienic kitchen.
Main responsibilities
* Assist the Head Chef with food preparation and basic cooking
* Learn dishes, recipes, food presentation and kitchen procedures
* Prepare ingredients before and during service
* Help ensure food is prepared safely and to a consistent standard
* Wash pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment
* Keep workstations, floors and food-preparation areas clean
* Help with deliveries, stock rotation and correct food storage
* Follow food hygiene, health and safety procedures
* Support the wider kitchen team during busy services
* Carry out other reasonable kitchen duties when required
About you
* Genuinely interested in learning and developing as a chef
* Comfortable assisting with cooking, pot washing and cleaning
* Reliable, punctual and hardworking
* Able to remain calm and organised during busy periods
* Willing to listen, learn and follow instructions from the Head Chef
* A positive team player with a good attitude
* Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential, as training can be provided
* Must have the right to work in the UK
