Purpose
The purpose of this role is to lead, motivate and coordinate a team of Production Operatives in the manufacturing of retail finished goods.
Role and Responsibilities
People Management
- Plan the labour in accordance with the production plans and ensure the agreed manning levels are not impacted
- Maintain a set skill level with the production staff ensuring enough trained cover is always available
- Plan workload for the team and assign staff to correct areas to achieve maximum output
- Ensure the staff is adequately inducted and trained to carry out their duties in a safe and satisfactory manner and develop a cross-skilled workforce ensuring their training and development take place and training records are kept up to date
- Responsible for effective absence management of the team including completion of return-to-work interviews and conducting absence management meetings
- Deal with any performance/conduct or grievance issues in a legally compliant and professional way
Department Management
- Assist in ensuring all company processes and procedures in relation to allergen control, food safety, hygiene and good manufacturing practices are maintained throughout the shift
- Deliver high standards of quality by ensuring products are produced to the customer satisfaction in line with site standards and customer specification
- Complete and submit documentation accurately and in a timely manner to ensure traceability is maintained
- Follow daily production plan
- Proactively foresee production issues and plan to avoid
- Ensure product changeovers are carried out effectively
- Monitor the quality of the products, maintain agreed GMP standards
- Liaise with stores to ensure availability of materials for production preventing any shortages and downtime
- Use continuous improvement methods for process optimisation and control
- Monitor manufacturing areas to maintain continuous production and accurate completion of production runs.
- Minimise environmental impact by ensuring company procedures are adhered to regarding waste disposal.
- Support the New Product Development process
- Proficient IT competences, including Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Understanding of a safe working environment
- Fluent English language, both verbal and written
- Willingness to enhance induvial knowledge in areas of development
Health and Safety
- Understand and assist in implementing the company safety policy and ensure all employees understand and adhere to it
- Ensure all equipment/machinery is used and maintained in a correct manner and any equipment/machinery issues are reported
- Ensure accident and near miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with and assist with accident investigations where appropriate
- Assist in ensuring all employees are suitably inducted/trained/competent to carry out the tasks and that the necessary certificates/training records are in place and appropriate
- Ensure all employees are issued with personal protective equipment as required
Notes
Due to the development and changing nature of production requirements within the business it is essential to be flexible and to carry out occasional or new tasks as required
In addition to these functions, employees may be assigned to other tasks and will be expected to perform any reasonable requests
Role Requirements
Essential
- Experience in a similar type of role in Food Industry
- Leading and managing operational teams
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Microsoft Office
- Good knowledge of H&S, Food Safety, BRC standards and PPE requirements
- - Good communication skills and ability to give clear & detailed instructions
- - Ability to demonstrate & describe procedures effectively
- - Excellent interpersonal, influencing, coaching, and negotiating skills
