The Family Surgery is a busy, friendly, and forward‑thinking NHS GP surgery. Our reception team plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care from the moment they contact us.
As demand on NHS primary care continues to grow, we’re looking for a Medical Receptionist who can bring professionalism, resilience, and empathy to this essential frontline role.
As an NHS Medical Receptionist, no two days are ever the same. You will be the first point of contact for patients needing help, reassurance, or urgent support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming and assisting patients both face‑to‑face, over the phone or using our online triage system
- Managing high call volumes and appointment requests with calm efficiency
- Handling sensitive, sometimes emotionally charged conversations
- Providing clear guidance on practice processes and NHS pathways
- Processing prescription requests and managing administrative tasks
- Supporting clinicians and maintaining smooth day‑to‑day operation of the practice
- Ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and excellent record‑keeping
- Administrative duties including actioning emails, dealing with incoming post, referral management, completing workflow tasks, scanning and coding - full training given.

Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist (ideally in an NHS setting)
- Familiarity with EMIS Web or similar clinical systems
- Experience supporting patients with diverse needs
