Musical Instrument Store Manager
An Opportunity to Run a Business Like It’s Your Own
We are looking for an ambitious, commercially driven Store Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day running and future success of our musical instrument shop.
This is not a typical retail management role.
We are looking for the kind of person who has always wanted to run their own business — someone with energy, ideas, drive and ambition, but who may not have had the financial backing or opportunity to start a business of their own.
We will provide the established business, stock, premises and infrastructure. You will bring the entrepreneurial mindset, leadership and determination to make it a success.
The Opportunity
The store has significant potential, but sales performance is currently below where it should be. A key part of your role will be to take ownership of the business, improve standards and lead the turnaround of an underperforming sales team.
You will be given the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the direction and performance of the store. We want someone who will look at every aspect of the business and continually ask: How can we make this better?
You will be expected to drive sales, motivate the team, improve customer service, develop new business opportunities and create an environment where both customers and employees want to be.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Taking overall responsibility for the commercial performance of the store.
- Leading, motivating and developing the sales team to significantly improve results.
- Setting clear sales targets and holding the team accountable for performance.
- Coaching team members to improve their product knowledge, sales ability and customer service.
- Identifying new ways to increase sales, improve margins and grow the customer base.
- Creating a proactive sales culture rather than simply waiting for customers to walk through the door.
- Building strong relationships with musicians, schools, teachers, bands, venues and the wider local music community.
- Ensuring the shop is well presented, professionally run and provides an outstanding customer experience.
- Managing stock, merchandising, staffing and the day-to-day operation of the business.
- Using commercial judgement to identify opportunities and solve problems.
- Treating the business with the same care, urgency and determination you would have if it were your own.
The Person We Are Looking For
You will be a natural leader with a strong commercial instinct and a genuine desire to succeed.
You may already be an experienced retail manager, sales manager or business manager looking for greater responsibility and freedom. Alternatively, you may have always believed you could successfully run a business if someone gave you the opportunity.
You will need to be:
- Highly ambitious, self-motivated and results driven.
- Entrepreneurial in your approach and comfortable taking ownership.
- A strong sales leader who knows how to motivate and improve an underperforming team.
- Confident setting expectations and having difficult conversations when necessary.
- Commercially minded, with a clear understanding that great customer service and strong sales performance go hand in hand.
- Full of ideas and prepared to put those ideas into action.
- Hands-on and willing to lead from the front.
- Able to create energy, enthusiasm and accountability within a team.
- Passionate about building a successful, profitable business.
An interest in or knowledge of musical instruments and the music industry would be a significant advantage, although commercial ability, leadership and attitude are equally important.
Why This Role Is Different
This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than simply managing a shop.
We want you to think and act like a business owner.
For the right person, this role offers the chance to take an established musical instrument business, put your own stamp on it and demonstrate what you can achieve when given genuine responsibility and the opportunity to succeed.
If you are the type of person who has always thought, “Give me the opportunity and I’ll show you what I can do,” we would like to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV and a covering letter explaining why you believe you are the right person to take ownership of this opportunity and lead the business to greater success.
