As an independent builders’ merchant, we pride ourselves in putting the customer first, offering friendly, helpful and professional advice.
You will be joining a friendly and experienced team, many of whom have built long term careers with us and are always happy to share their knowledge. No two days are the same and you’ll be working with both trade and retail customers in our busy Barnoldswick branch.
We are especially interested in candidates who have experience working in a builder’s merchants, trade counter or similar customer facing role within the building industry. However, if you enjoy chatting to customers, helping them find the right products and being part of a supportive busy team, you’ll fit right in.

Key Responsibilities
- Serving customers at the Trade Counter. This is very much a customer facing role.
- Booking goods to accounts along with cash sale transactions
- Processing payment transactions accurately
- Raising sales orders / delivery notes / stock transfers
- Answering customer enquiries / taking orders (in person / e-mail / over the phone)
- Ensuring end of day practices are completed
Essential Skills & Experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Good communication skills to advise customers clearly and accurately
- Be able to demonstrate competent computer skills
- Maintain a clean/organised Trade Counter area
- Have the ability to work well within a team
Desirable
- Have experience of working within a merchant environment
- Good product knowledge within the builder’s merchants’ sector

Please note this is a hands on role within a busy builder’s merchant environment and involves working with trade and retail customers, stock handling and product knowledge.

Hours of Work
Enjoy the security of a full time role with consistent hours
Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 5.00pm (45 minute lunch break)
Alternate Saturdays: 9.00am to 12:00noon
