Overview
We are seeking a reliable, dedicated and skilled Bank Phlebotomist to join our Nursing team at the Glebe Surgery. You will provide essential cover during peak periods, annual leave, and sickness. Your primary role is to delver safe, efficient and compassionate blood collection for our diverse population. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, with experience in Primary care environments preferred. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to patient care while working within a supportive and professional team.
Responsibilities
- Raise request forms on the request system ICE
- Keep accurate electronic patient records on System One computer system
- Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic technique to maintain safety and sample integrity
- Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory analysis
- Assist with patient identification and ensure proper documentation of procedures
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols
- Ensure the comfort and safety of patients during venepuncture procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the phlebotomy area
- Proven general practice/hospital experience in phlebotomy
- Certification or training in phlebotomy recognised by relevant health authorities
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to blood collection procedures
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Proficiency in aseptic technique to prevent contamination or infection
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required - up to date training can be given
- Experience working with paediatric patients is advantageous
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail to ensure specimen accuracy and proper documentation
