Event/Bar Supervisor
Reports to: Bar Manager
Location: Four bars across the club site
Role purposeTo supervise the day-to-day running of the club's four bars, ensuring shifts are well staffed, well stocked and compliant, that match days operate smoothly, and that customers receive consistent, friendly service. The role combines hands-on bar work with responsibility for staff, stock, cellar operations and licensing compliance
Key responsibilities
Shift operations
- Run bar shifts across all four bars on site, including set-up, service and close-down
- Work split shifts where operational demand requires it
- Ensure each bar is correctly stocked, staffed and presented before service begins
- Progress to holding responsibility for lock-ups, including securing the premises, alarms and keys, following a period of training and assessment
- Take ownership of smooth match day operations, anticipating demand, positioning staff appropriately and maintaining service speed at peak periods
Cellar and technical
- Manage cellar operations, including stock rotation, storage conditions and cellar cleanliness
- Handle gas management safely, including cylinder changes, connections and stock levels
- Carry out line cleaning across all four bars to schedule, maintaining records of completion
- Report equipment faults promptly and coordinate remedial action
Staff management
- Supervise bar staff across all four bars, allocating duties and monitoring performance during service
- Support new starters through induction and training, and provide ongoing support and development to existing staff
- Contribute to rota management under the guidance of the Bar Manager, ensuring shifts are appropriately covered across the site
- Foster a positive, inclusive team environment in which staff are supported and standards are consistently upheld
- Brief teams ahead of match days, functions and events
Compliance
- Ensure all bar activity complies with licensing law, including age verification, refusal of service and adherence to permitted hours and licence conditions
- Maintain health and safety, food hygiene and cleaning standards across all bar areas
- Complete and maintain required records, including refusals, cleaning schedules and temperature checks
- Ensure safe handling of cash, stock and equipment in line with club procedures
Person specificationEssential
- Organised, reliable and proactive, with the ability to work with limited supervision
- Friendly, approachable and community minded, with a genuine interest in the club and its members
- Able to supervise and motivate a team during busy periods
- Available to work late nights, weekends and match days
- Willing and able to work split shifts as required
- Sound understanding of licensing and health and safety obligations, or willingness to be trained
- Physically able to carry out cellar duties, including handling kegs and gas cylinders
Desirable
- Previous experience in a bar supervisory or senior bar role
- Experience of cellar management, gas changes and line cleaning
- Personal Licence holder
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certification
- Experience of working in a members' club, sports club or high-volume event environment
Working arrangements
The role involves evening, weekend and public holiday work, with hours concentrated around fixtures, functions and events. Split shifts will feature during periods of high demand. The role is a part-time contract but with plenty of opportunity to work full-time hours during busy periods.
