Job Description:
Protect, support and make a difference.
As a Warden with Sodexo at the Personnel Recovery Centre, Chavasse VC House, Merville Barracks, Berechurch Road, Colchester, CO2 7SW, you'll play an important role in providing a safe, secure and supportive environment for military personnel residing at the centre.
Working predominantly during silent hours, you'll be a trusted point of contact for residents and will take responsibility for the security and safety of the building throughout your shift. From monitoring access and carrying out security checks to responding calmly to incidents and supporting residents when they need assistance, this is a varied role where your judgement, professionalism and people skills really matter.
This is a lone-working position within a team of four Wardens, so we're looking for someone with previous security experience who is confident working independently and taking responsibility when situations arise. A current SIA licence is essential.
What you’ll do:
-
Provide a professional and reassuring presence throughout your shift, acting as the first point of contact for residents requiring practical help or assistance.
-
Maintain the security of the building, reception area and access points, controlling entry to the facility and carrying out internal and external checks.
-
Issue room keys to new residents and complete the necessary paperwork and security procedures.
-
Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies, contacting the relevant military, civilian or emergency services when required.
-
Support site safety, including fire prevention, monitoring alarms and arranging emergency maintenance where necessary.
-
Maintain accurate records and logs of events and provide clear written and verbal handovers at the end of each shift.
-
Communicate professionally and sensitively with residents, military personnel, colleagues and other stakeholders.
-
Support the safety, dignity, privacy and wellbeing of residents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
-
Remain alert and prepared to act as the first responder to incidents throughout your shift.
What you bring:
-
A current SIA licence – essential.
-
Previous experience within security or a similar environment.
-
Experience within a military environment would be advantageous.
-
Confidence working independently and using your own initiative.
-
A calm and professional approach, including the ability to deal appropriately with challenging, distressed or angry individuals.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships.
-
A responsible and observant approach to safety and security.
-
The ability to provide support and reassurance while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
-
Flexibility to work the required shift pattern, including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
