About The Greyhound
The Greyhound is one of the best-known pubs in the Cromford and Matlock area and is currently undergoing a major refurbishment ahead of an exciting reopening in October 2026.
The venue combines a historic pub and restaurant with a nine-bedroom boutique hotel, creating a destination for both local customers and visitors to Derbyshire.
This is a great opportunity to join us at the beginning of a new chapter and become a key member of the opening management team, helping to shape the bar operation, service standards and team culture from day one.
We are now looking for an experienced, hands-on Bar Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day running of the bar.
The Role
Working closely with the General Manager/owner, you will be responsible for ensuring the bar is well organised, commercially controlled and consistently delivering excellent service.
This is not a General Manager role – your main focus will be the bar, drinks operation and bar team.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and motivating the bar team during service
- Helping recruit and train the opening bar team
- Cellar management and maintaining excellent beer quality
- Stock ordering, stock control and reducing wastage
- Maintaining high standards of bar cleanliness and organisation
- Overseeing opening and closing procedures
- Training the team in drinks knowledge and service standards
- Helping develop our beer, wine, spirit and cocktail offer
- Working with suppliers and management
- Acting as Duty Manager when required
- Working closely with the restaurant and kitchen teams
- Delivering warm, friendly and professional hospitality at all times
About You
You may already be an experienced Bar Manager, or a strong Assistant Manager or Bar Supervisor ready for the next step.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a quality pub, bar, restaurant or hospitality environment
- Has good knowledge of beer, wine, spirits and cocktails
- Understands cellar management and stock control
- Is commercially aware and understands margins and wastage
- Can lead and develop a team in a calm, positive way
- Is organised, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility
- Is naturally friendly and enjoys looking after customers
- Is hands-on and enjoys being involved in busy services
- Can remain calm and professional under pressure
- Is available to work evenings, weekends and key hospitality periods
