JOB DESCRIPTION: DOMESTIC HOUSEKEEPER
Hours: 15 hours over 3 days, including alternate weekends
Responsible to: Home Manager / Senior Staff
Qualifications, Training and Experience
- Previous domestic or housekeeping experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
- Genuine interest in working with and supporting older people.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible and willing to undertake required training.
Main Purpose of the Role
To maintain a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation throughout the home, providing a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for residents, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean residents' rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, dining areas and other areas of the home to a high standard.
- Follow cleaning schedules and ensure all completed duties are recorded.
- Carry out laundry duties, ensuring residents' clothing, bedding and towels are clean and available when required.
- Handle soiled laundry and waste safely in accordance with the home's procedures.
- Keep housekeeping cupboards, cleaning equipment and laundry areas clean, tidy and secure.
- Ensure cleaning products are stored and used safely in accordance with COSHH requirements.
- Replenish toilet rolls, hand towels, soap and other housekeeping supplies as required.
- Report low stock levels, faulty equipment, damage, maintenance issues or hazards promptly.
- Respect residents' privacy, dignity, choices and personal belongings at all times.
- Knock and seek permission before entering residents' rooms and avoid cleaning while residents are present unless necessary or agreed.
- Work cooperatively with care staff, maintenance staff and other members of the team.
- Communicate politely and professionally with residents, relatives, visitors and colleagues.
- Attend staff meetings, supervision and mandatory training when required.
- Assist with other domestic duties, including kitchen and laundry duties, when required.
- Maintain confidentiality and report any safeguarding concerns or poor practice immediately.
- Follow all infection-control, fire, health and safety and safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Wear the required uniform and identification badge and maintain a professional standard of appearance.
- Comply with the home's No Smoking and mobile phone policies.
Health and Safety
- Work safely at all times and follow the home's Health and Safety and COSHH procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow infection-control and hand-hygiene procedures.
- Report accidents, illness, hazards, spillages or faulty equipment immediately.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals, equipment, laundry and waste are handled and stored safely.
- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others.
