Job title: Stroke Support Worker (Maternity Cover)
Reports to: Debbie Newton - Stroke Centre Manager
Hours: 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. This role can either be one fulltime person or a job-share
Responsible for: Working as part of a skilled and caring team to provide support and a person-centred service to people living with complex neurological conditions such as stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s etc
Main purpose of job
We offer a varied role where you will be collecting people from home, you will bring them into the Centre in one of our buses and support them throughout the day to take part in a range of activities and ensure they have a good day with us before returning home in the afternoon.
Main tasks (NB: this is not intended to cover every task in the role)
- Supporting our Service Users to take part in activities such as crafts, dominoes, dancing or seated sports. Enable people to have a good day, feeling safe and cared for while they are at the Centre
- Making and serving drinks and refreshments, this includes taking a turn in the kitchen to prepare lunch on a rota basis with other staff.
- Maintaining our high standards by providing a varied menu meeting individual needs and being willing to learn about modified diets and swallowing problems to ensure the safety of our service users
- Driving one of our 7 mini buses to collect people from home. This includes clamping wheelchairs in safely in the vehicle. Confidence is needed driving bigger vehicles to ensure a safe and relaxed journey for everyone
- Supporting with personal care needs, ensuring you maintain our service users dignity at all times
- Working as part of the team to keep our Centre clean and tidy. Having a pride in keeping the Centre looking welcoming for service users and visitors and creating a pleasant working environment for you and your colleagues
- Supporting with service users to take any prescribed medication they might need while they spend the day with us. Attention to detail to ensure medicines are managed safely at all times in line with our policies and risk assessments.
