Velo Bavarian – Milford, Derbyshire
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person to join the team at Velo Bavarian and play a key role in the day-to-day running of our bike shop.
This is a varied, hands-on role covering sales, customer service, shop administration and basic workshop support. We’re looking for someone who already has experience within the cycling industry and is confident around bikes.
Ideally, you'll be able to work Tuesday–Saturday, although there may be some flexibility for the right person.
THE ROLE
Working under our Shop Manager, you'll primarily be responsible for helping keep the shop floor and day-to-day operations running smoothly.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, knowledgeable advice
- Bike, clothing, accessory and component sales
- Answering phone, email and customer enquiries
- General shop administration
- Processing and managing orders
- Keeping the shop floor clean, organised and well presented
- Receiving, organising and maintaining stock
- General day-to-day shop maintenance
- Supporting the wider VB team wherever required
You'll also work alongside our mechanic, helping with straightforward workshop jobs when required, including:
- Basic stock bike builds and preparation
- Tubeless setups
- Gear tuning and adjustments
- Basic servicing and maintenance
- Keeping the workshop and storeroom clean, organised and efficient
Depending on your skills and interests, there may also be opportunities to get involved with social media, photography, video and content creation for Velo Bavarian.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Previous experience working within the bike/cycling industry is essential. You don't need to be an experienced mechanic, but we're ideally looking for someone who is comfortable carrying out basic bike maintenance and understands bikes, components and cycling products.
More importantly, we're looking for someone who is:
- Friendly and confident with customers
- Reliable and organised
- Proactive and happy to get stuck in
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
- Naturally clean and tidy in how they work
- Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about bikes
- Willing to help with everything from selling a bike to cleaning the shop or sorting the storeroom
This is a crucial role within Velo Bavarian. We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who takes ownership of their responsibilities and understands that keeping the everyday jobs running smoothly makes a huge difference to the whole business.
HOURS & CONTRACT
The position will be for a minimum of 3 days per week, with the intention of offering up to 5 days / full-time hours for the right person.
Our ideal working pattern is Tuesday–Saturday.
The role will initially be offered on a zero-hours basis with a 3-month probationary period.
For the right person, our intention is for the role to progress into a permanent contracted position following successful completion of probation, with the associated holiday entitlement and benefits.
