Harley Street Mental Health is a growing private mental health provider offering ADHD, autism and psychiatric assessment and treatment services to private patients and NHS patients under contract arrangements.
We are looking for an experienced, fully qualified accountant to take ownership of the company’s finance function and support the continued growth of the business. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable managing day-to-day finance while also providing clear financial reporting, review the backing data, commercial insight and support to the directors.
The business has several income streams, including private patient payments, VAT-registered training/course income, and NHS contract income invoiced through Tradeshift. We also work with a number of subcontracted clinicians and have several employees on payroll.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company’s finance processes, including private patient income, NHS contract invoicing, course income, supplier payments, review backing data, subcontractor payments and payroll oversight.
You will prepare monthly management accounts, monitor cashflow, reconcile income streams, review debtor and creditor positions, and provide regular reporting to the directors. You will also support budgeting, forecasting, profit analysis and financial planning as the company continues to grow.
The role will include responsibility for VAT processes, particularly in relation to VAT-registered course income, and ensuring that financial records are accurate and well organised. You will also liaise with other professional advisers as required.
You will be expected to help improve financial systems, controls and reporting processes, ensuring the business has accurate, timely and useful financial and data information.
Main duties
Managing day-to-day finance operations across private patient income, NHS contract income and course income.
Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for the directors.
Managing or overseeing VAT returns and ensuring appropriate VAT treatment across different income streams.
Managing NHS invoicing through Tradeshift and monitoring payments.
Overseeing payroll processes.
Managing subcontractor invoices and payments.
Bank reconciliations and reconciliation of income received through different payment routes.
Monitoring cashflow, aged debtors, creditors and supplier payments.
Preparing budgets, forecasts and financial performance reports.
Supporting year-end accounts and liaising with external partners.
Reviewing and improving internal finance systems, controls and processes.
Providing commercial insight to support decision-making and business growth.
Essential requirements
Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
Experience in an SME finance role, ideally as a Finance Manager, Company Accountant, Management Accountant or Financial Controller.
Confident managing management accounts, reconciliations, VAT, payroll oversight and cashflow reporting.
Strong understanding of VAT and multi-income stream businesses.
Experience managing supplier payments, subcontractor invoices and payroll-related processes.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Comfortable working directly with directors and providing clear, practical financial advice.
Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
Desirable experience
Experience in healthcare, private medical services, NHS contracts or regulated services.
Experience using Tradeshift or similar NHS invoicing platforms.
Experience with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar accounting systems.
Experience working with businesses that have both VATable and exempt income streams.
Experience supporting growing owner-managed businesses.

This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of the finance function and improving systems rather than simply processing transactions. You should be confident working independently, able to explain financial information clearly, and comfortable supporting a growing healthcare business with multiple income streams.
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
