A position is available for a petrophysicist / petrologist / reservoir engineer / sedimentologist / stratigrapher to join the Stratigraphy Group, a large international research group based at the University of Manchester, as Research Fellow in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy and CO2 Storage. You will take a leading role in the LobeStore research programme. This joint industry programme aims to characterise reservoir-scale heterogeneity and mineralogical variability in deep-marine lobe successions, and the role these may play in CO2 migration, pressure dissipation, and reaction front surface area to support CO2 storage site appraisal and management. The research programme, which is led by Prof Ian Kane, Dr Lin Ma, Prof Steve Flint, and Prof David Hodgson (Leeds), will seek to integrate field data collected in the Karoo Basin (South Africa) and other exhumed systems and subsurface systems from the North Sea/NCS, to develop models of deep-marine lobe successions as fluid flow pathways and storage containers for CO2. You will work closely with sedimentologists and stratigraphers who will provide the geological data for pore- and reservoir-scale models. We have some flexibility on the exact focus of the research according to the expertise of the applicant, and there is potential for fieldwork.
You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in geoscience, with skills in, or willingness to learn, petrology and pore-scale flow simulations, and ideally experience in sedimentary processes and stratigraphic successions.
You will be comfortable leading and integrating key aspects of the programme, presenting to sponsor companies, and be willing to contribute to and support a diverse and international research team. The post is based at the University of Manchester, UK.
