The Vacancy
The Scottish Bookbindings Project Cataloguer is fixed term for 6 months.
We’re looking for someone to join our Published Collections team to improve the catalogue descriptions of the Library’s extensive holdings of decorative Scottish bookbindings from approximately 1680-1830. This work will improve access for researchers and lay the groundwork for potential digitisation as you describe the relevant features of these bindings. Examples of the styles of bookbinding involved can be seen at https://digital.nls.uk/bookbinding/
What we are looking for -
We’re looking for someone with experience of cataloguing published materials in MARC using a library management system. Experience of working with rare books would be desirable. You will have the ability to work efficiently whilst accurately recording the relevant details of the binding and paying due respect to the preservation requirements of the books handled. If this sounds like you, then we look forward to reading your application.
What we can offer you –
If you join us, you’ll become part of one of Scotland’s premier cultural institutions — a National Library that safeguards the country’s memory through its remarkable collections. You’ll have the chance to work flexibly where the service allows, and you’ll benefit from a range of training and development opportunities. We offer generous annual leave, a competitive pension scheme, and, of course, the support of a team of great colleagues.
