The Role
The Resource Manager is responsible for the effective allocation, and utilisation of our technical resources to meet business objectives. This role ensures the right people with the right skills are deployed to the right projects at the right time, balancing operational demand with workforce capacity and efficiency.
This role is critical to ensuring organisational effectiveness by aligning workforce capability with business demand. The Resource Manager plays a central role in enabling successful delivery through strategic planning, strong stakeholder engagement, and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Planning & Allocation
- Develop and maintain resource plans aligned to organisational priorities
- Allocate staff to projects and operational activities based on skills, availability, and business needs
- Continuously review and adjust allocations to address changing demands
- Manage conflicts in resource demand and prioritise effectively
Workforce Management
- Monitor workforce capacity, utilisation, and productivity
- Identify resource gaps, skills shortages, and succession requirements
- Support recruitment planning in collaboration with HR and hiring managers
- Maintain accurate records of resource availability, skills, and assignments
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with project managers, department heads, and senior leadership to understand resourcing needs
- Provide advice on workforce planning and resource optimisation
- Act as the central point of contact for all resourcing queries
Team Collaboration
- Foster a supportive and collaborative Resource Team environment where sharing knowledge and helping colleagues is the norm.
- Encourage joint problem-solving by supporting resourcing challenges, sharing best practice, and seeking diverse perspectives to deliver strong outcomes.
Performance & Reporting
- Track and report on key resourcing metrics (e.g., utilisation, availability, capacity)
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve efficiency and delivery
- Drive consistency in resource planning practices across teams
- Identify and mitigate risks related to resource constraints and over-allocation
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in resource management, workforce planning, or operations management
- Strong organisational and planning skills with attention to detail
- Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful insights
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience using resource planning tools (e.g., MS Project, resource management software such as ProFinda or Retain, Excel)
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable
- Experience in National Security or Defence Sector
- Resourcing Management within Technology organisation or Professional Services consultancy
- Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile)
- Experience with workforce analytics or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI)
- Understanding of HR processes including recruitment and talent planning
