Construction Project Manager / Working Site Manager
Location: Essex & Suffolk
Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience
Employment Type: PAYE
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
HMJ Contracts Ltd is looking for an experienced and practical Construction Project Manager / Working Site Manager to support the day-to-day running of our projects across Essex and Suffolk.
We're looking for someone who understands construction, can confidently manage trades and keep projects organised, progressing and completed to a high standard.
This is a hands-on role rather than a heavily office-based project management position. It could particularly suit an experienced tradesperson who has progressed into site or project management and is comfortable combining practical construction knowledge with responsibility for running jobs.
You'll work closely with the company director, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of local projects and helping ensure our teams have the information, materials and direction they need to keep work moving.
The Role
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing multiple construction projects across Essex and Suffolk
- Regularly visiting sites and monitoring progress
- Coordinating trades, subcontractors and site activities
- Keeping projects organised and works progressing to programme
- Checking the quality and standard of work being completed
- Identifying and resolving day-to-day site issues
- Planning ahead for upcoming works, labour and materials
- Ensuring trades have the information and resources required
- Liaising with clients where required
- Liaising with Building Control and other relevant parties
- Keeping the company director updated on progress and any issues requiring attention
- Ensuring sites are kept safe, organised and professionally managed
- Using our project management system to keep job information and site updates current
What We're Looking For
The right person will:
- Have strong experience within the building and construction industry
- Have experience managing sites, projects or teams of tradespeople
- Have a good practical understanding of different construction trades and the order in which works need to be completed
- Be confident managing trades and subcontractors
- Be organised and able to manage several jobs at different stages
- Be proactive and able to solve problems without needing constant direction
- Have a good eye for quality and attention to detail
- Communicate professionally with customers, trades and colleagues
- Be comfortable with basic administration and record keeping
- Hold a Full UK Driving Licence
A trade background would be an advantage and we're happy to consider experienced tradespeople who have progressed into supervising or managing construction projects.
Working Arrangements
The role will primarily cover projects throughout Essex and Suffolk and will involve travelling between sites as required.
This isn't a role where you'll be expected to spend every day behind a desk. We need someone who is comfortable being out on site, speaking with the trades and actively managing what's happening.
There will also be some office-based work and basic administration where required, including liaising with Building Control and keeping project information up to date.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary dependent on experience
- Full-time, permanent PAYE position
- Varied projects across Essex and Suffolk
- The opportunity to take genuine responsibility for the day-to-day running of projects
- A practical role combining site and project management
If you're an experienced construction professional who enjoys keeping jobs organised, solving problems and getting projects over the line, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
