About Waste X
Website : wastextracking.com
Salary: To be agreed + performance-based commission
Location: Flexible / Hybrid, with UK customer site visits
Job type: Full-time or flexible depending on the right person
Waste X is an early-stage software company building technology for the UK waste and construction industries.
We're building a platform designed to make waste operations, compliance, tracking and reporting simpler and more connected.
We're still early.
The product is being built, we're speaking with the industry and the business is currently working towards securing further funding and growing its customer base.
So this isn't a role where you're joining a large company with a finished playbook, a huge marketing budget and hundreds of leads waiting in a CRM.
You'll be helping build that playbook with us.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone hungry, confident and willing to build.
Someone who can get on the phone with a potential customer, visit a waste site, demonstrate Waste X, help a new customer get set up, listen to their problems, bring feedback back into the business and get stuck into whatever needs doing.
Your role will sit somewhere between:
sales → customers → onboarding → growth → operations
and because we're an early-stage company, those lines won't always be perfectly defined.
Some days you might be trying to win a new customer.
Other days you might be helping an existing customer get their team onto Waste X.
Another day you might be visiting a waste site, sitting with operators and finding out why something we've built isn't working the way they need it to.
That's the kind of person we're looking for.
What you'll be doing
- Finding and speaking to potential Waste X customers.
- Booking and delivering product demos.
- Following up opportunities and helping win new business.
- Visiting customer sites and understanding how they actually operate.
- Helping new customers get started with Waste X.
- Training customers and answering questions.
- Building relationships with customers.
- Gathering honest feedback about the product.
- Working directly with the founder to decide what needs improving.
- Helping with commercial and administrative work when needed.
- Testing ideas for how Waste X can grow.
- Helping us build our sales and customer processes from scratch.
What matters more than your CV
We're less interested in finding someone with the perfect corporate CV and more interested in finding someone with the right mentality.
You should be:
- Hungry and ambitious.
- Comfortable talking to people.
- Willing to pick up the phone.
- Happy walking into an operational environment and speaking to people on the ground.
- Able to listen rather than just sell.
- Organised enough to keep on top of customers and follow-ups.
- Comfortable figuring things out without being given a manual for everything.
- Willing to take responsibility.
- Interested in technology and waste management business.
- Excited by the idea of helping build an early-stage company.
Experience in waste, construction, logistics, SaaS, sales or customer-facing roles would be useful — but attitude and ability matter more to us than having worked in the perfect industry before.
This won't be for everyone
We want to be upfront about where Waste X is.
We're an early-stage business and are currently working towards further funding and commercial growth.
That means this role won't look like joining an established software company where every process already exists.
Things will change.
We'll test things that don't work.
There will be problems we haven't encountered before.
Sometimes you'll need to figure something out rather than wait for somebody to tell you what to do.
But you'll also have the opportunity to join very early, work directly with the founder and have a genuine influence over how the company grows.
If you're looking for a completely predictable corporate role, this probably isn't it.
If you're looking for an opportunity to help build something, we'd like to speak to you.
Where the role could go
The intention isn't for this person to remain a junior salesperson forever.
If Waste X grows and you're helping make that happen, there is scope for the role to grow with the company into areas such as:
Growth → Business Development → Customer Success → Commercial Management → Head of Growth
depending on your strengths and where the business goes.
Desirable experience
Experience in any of the following would be helpful, but is not essential:
- SaaS or software sales.
- Waste management experience
- Business development.
- Customer success.
- Account management.
- Software onboarding or implementation.
- Recycling.
- Construction.
- Environmental services.
- Logistics or transport.
- Working with operational businesses.
