Groundwork is looking for a motivated and experienced Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of Grounds Maintenance Operatives delivering high-quality landscape and horticultural maintenance services across land in Redcar & Cleveland.
About the role
As a hands-on supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring grounds maintenance and improvement works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards while supporting and developing your team.
You will oversee the day-to-day delivery of a varied programme of grounds maintenance and landscape improvement works. Working closely with the Contract Manager, you will coordinate resources, supervise staff, monitor quality, and maintain positive working relationships with customers.
This is a practical role requiring regular outdoor work in all weather conditions and active involvement in grounds maintenance activities alongside your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise and support a team of Grounds Maintenance Operatives delivering landscape maintenance and improvement works across Redcar & Cleveland.
- Plan, coordinate and monitor daily and weekly work programmes to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to agreed quality standards.
- Provide on-site guidance, coaching and development opportunities for team members while promoting high levels of performance and customer service.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, job sheets, photographs and resource information, updating the Contract Manager on progress and any issues.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, customers and other stakeholders.
- Ensure all tools, equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and safety checked, reporting defects promptly.
- Champion a strong health and safety culture by carrying out risk assessments, ensuring correct PPE use and maintaining safe working practices for staff and the public.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who:
- Has experience supervising teams within grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, or a similar environment.
- Possesses strong leadership and communication skills.
- Can organise workloads and effectively manage competing priorities.
- Is committed to delivering high-quality work and excellent customer service.
- Has a proactive approach to health and safety.
- Is willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Holds a full driving licence and can drive vehicles used to transport staff and equipment.
