Job Purpose
The Car Park Attendant plays a key role in creating a positive first impression for Baylis Cheltenham. You will ensure the car park operates safely, efficiently, and smoothly by welcoming customers, managing vehicle movement, and keeping designated drop-off and pick-up areas organised. Your presence will help reduce congestion, maintain safety, and deliver a professional and stress-free customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Assistance
- Greet customers in a friendly, professional, and approachable manner
- Assist drivers with parking and direct them to available spaces
- Provide clear guidance on safe parking and exiting the car park
- Support customers with accessibility needs, prams, or drop-offs where appropriate
Traffic & Vehicle Management
- Manage vehicle flow to minimise congestion and ensure safe movement at all times
- Assist with manoeuvring and repositioning vehicles when required
- Proactively manage peak periods to maximise space, efficiency, and safety
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Bay Management
- Monitor and organise drop-off and pick-up bays to ensure short-stay use only
- Politely challenge and move vehicles on when bays are being misused
- Coordinate vehicle movement to prevent bottlenecks and safety risks
Safety & Security
- Maintain a visible presence to promote safety, order, and professionalism
- Identify and respond to hazards such as poor parking, obstructions, or spills
- Monitor for unsafe behaviour and take appropriate action in line with procedures
- Report incidents, near misses, or damage accurately and promptly
General Duties
- Keep the car park clean, tidy, and well organised
- Ensure signage, cones, barriers, and markings are correctly positioned
- Report maintenance or safety concerns without delay
- Follow all health & safety and site-specific procedures at all times
Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Confidence in directing vehicles and pedestrians safely
- Calm, professional approach in busy or high-pressure situations
- Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
Desirable
- Previous experience in a customer-facing, traffic management, or facilities role
- Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures
- Experience assisting drivers or managing vehicle movement
Working Conditions
- Predominantly outdoor role in varying weather conditions
- High-visibility clothing must be worn at all times
- Job share working a Friday 8am-4.30pm. They be asked to work additional hours at request.
