Production Team Leader

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Production Team Leader to join a busy and growing food manufacturing operation.
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will lead a team of production operatives, ensuring daily production plans are achieved while maintaining high standards of quality, food safety, hygiene and health & safety.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, supporting their team and finding ways to improve production performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and organise production operatives to achieve daily targets.
- Allocate staff and resources according to production requirements.
- Ensure products are manufactured and packed to customer and quality specifications.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, GMP and health & safety.
- Monitor production performance, downtime and waste, identifying areas for improvement.
- Complete production records, quality documentation and operational reports accurately.
- Carry out routine production and equipment checks.
- Escalate equipment faults, quality issues and production concerns promptly.
- Support continuous improvement and process optimisation across the department.
- Train, coach and support new and existing team members.
- Manage team performance and encourage a positive working environment.
- Lead by example and maintain high standards across the production area.
- Provide supervisory support during periods of management absence.
About You
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Production Team Leader, Production Supervisor or Shift Supervisor within manufacturing or food production.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Good numerical and computer skills.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- A flexible approach to working hours and changing production requirements.
Desirable Experience
- FMCG or food manufacturing experience.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement knowledge.
- HACCP or food safety experience.
- Experience working with production KPIs and performance targets.
Qualifications
Essential:
- GCSEs, NVQ, Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable:
- HACCP qualification.
- Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Qualification in Manufacturing, Food Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
Working Hours
- 40 hours per week.
- Rotating shift pattern across five days.
- Weekend working included as part of the rota.
- Flexibility required during seasonal peaks and periods of increased production demand.
