Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Summer Club Special Needs Assistant to support children with diverse needs during our summer programme. The successful candidate will assist in creating an inclusive, engaging, and safe environment for children with disabilities, including those with autism and other special educational needs. This paid role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children in a supportive setting, fostering their development and enjoyment throughout the summer months.
Duties
- Provide personalised support to children with special educational needs, ensuring their participation in activities.
- Assist with organising and facilitating inclusive activities tailored to individual abilities and interests.
- Support children with autism and other disabilities in developing social skills and behavioural routines.
- Supervise children during outdoor play, meal times, and organised activities to ensure safety at all times.
- Communicate effectively with children, colleagues, and parents/carers to promote understanding and cooperation.
- Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies as directed by the programme supervisor.
- Support children with toddler care routines where applicable, including toileting and personal hygiene assistance.
- Maintain a clean, organised environment conducive to learning and play.
Experience
- Previous experience working with individuals with autism or other disabilities is highly desirable.
- Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of special education principles and practices will be advantageous.
- Experience in teaching or supporting children with diverse needs will be considered a strong asset.
- Excellent communication skills are essential for effective interaction with children, colleagues, and families.
- Experience working with toddlers or in early childhood care settings is a plus.
