Cumbernauld YMCA is looking for an experienced Senior Child Care Assistant to help lead our Out of School Care service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys mentoring others, delivering high-quality childcare and making a real difference to children’s lives.
The Senior Childcare Assistant plays a key role in ensuring delivery of quality service and creating a safe nurturing Play and Learning environment is provided on days the Peripatetic Registered Manager is not at the service. They will deploy and supervise staff to ensure children are cared for and have fun in a safe, nurturing environment. They will ensure policies, procedures and legislation requirements are met and maintained on days the Registered Manager is not in the service. Liaising with Parents and schools as delegated.
About the Role
Responsibilities
- Activity planning: Assist with planning and delivering activities that meet the developmental needs and wellbeing needs of the children, with plans/observations kept up to date. Organising activities.
- Supervision: Supervise play, homework time, and other activities.
- Escort Duties: Collect children from school and escort them to the service.
- Safety and environment: Ensure the club environment is safe, stimulating, and nurturing both indoors and outdoors.
- Administration: Assist with administrative tasks and maintain relevant records according to quality procedures.
- Support: The Senior will support the Manager with the day-to-day running of the setting and forward programme planning and quality assurance requirements/development.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
· SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF Level 7 (or equivalent).
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within school-age childcare.
· Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting staff.
· Excellent communication and organisational skills.
· Good knowledge of child development, safeguarding and wellbeing.
· Ability to build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
Desirable:
· SCQF Level 9 qualification (or working towards).
· Knowledge of GIRFEC, SHANARRI, UNCRC and Care Inspectorate requirements.
· Experience supporting quality assurance and service improvement.
