About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of our busy automotive service centre in Derby. This role combines technical expertise with team leadership and customer service — ideal for an experienced Vehicle Technician who’s ready to step up or an existing supervisor looking for more responsibility.
You’ll work closely with the Branch Manager to ensure smooth operations, high-quality workmanship, and great customer experiences — while still getting involved in the workshop when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Branch Manager in leading and motivating the workshop
- Carry out diagnostics, repairs, servicing, and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles
- Support in managing workshop efficiency, quality control, and job flow
- Provide technical guidance and support to other technicians
- Help ensure top-level customer service and satisfaction
- Oversee stock levels, parts ordering, and supplier relations when required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant workshop environment
- Deputise for the Branch Manager during absences
- Contribute ideas to improve performance, profitability, and customer retention
About You
- Proven experience as a Vehicle Technician
- Strong mechanical knowledge across servicing, tyres, diagnostics, and repairs
- Confident communicator with good people and customer service skills
- Able to take initiative, solve problems, and lead by example
- Organised, reliable, and keen to develop your management skills
- Previous experience in a supervisory or assistant management role within the automotive or fast-fit industry preferred
