Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Catering Duty Manager to join our catering team. This is a hands-on role where you will support the day-to-day operation of our catering facilities, ensuring excellent customer service across stadium kiosks, public bars, hospitality areas, and events.
Working closely with the Head of Catering, you will help lead and motivate our front-of-house teams, maintain operational standards, and contribute to delivering an outstanding experience for supporters, guests, and visitors on matchdays and throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Catering and other Duty Managers in preparing kiosks, bars, and catering outlets for matchdays and events.
- Lead, supervise, and motivate front-of-house teams to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve operational targets.
- Assist with staffing deployment and rota management to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure all catering outlets are fully stocked and prepared to maximise sales opportunities.
- Monitor stock levels and help minimise waste through effective stock control and allocation.
- Provide hands-on support across all catering areas during busy service periods.
- Assist with the setup and preparation of future events and matchdays.
- Gather customer feedback and work with colleagues to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support the management and development of team members, addressing performance concerns professionally and constructively.
- Take responsibility for stock control procedures during events, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and Health & Safety compliance throughout all catering areas.
- Carry out stadium opening and closing procedures as a key holder when required.
Person Specification
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within catering, hospitality, retail, or a similar customer-focused environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and manage teams effectively.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, matchdays, and events, with the ability to adapt to business needs.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to perform well under pressure.
- Professional, reliable, and punctual with high standards of personal presentation.
- Passionate about delivering excellent customer service and creating positive guest experiences.
- Commercially aware, with an understanding of cost control and efficient resource management.
- Good knowledge of food safety, Health & Safety, and operational best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
- A positive ambassador for Colchester United and the Catering Department, demonstrating professionalism and commitment to the Club's values.
