Overview
The Department of Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) is responsible for maintaining the buildings, facilities and grounds, managing property and facilities and procuring new buildings.
The PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) Testing Supervisor will be responsible for in-house delivery of PAT testing services and managing external contractors as part of the Engineering & Maintenance Team within the Department of Estates & Facilities Management. You will supervise a team working throughout the University’s diverse portfolio of buildings and properties encompassing an exceptionally varied portfolio, from architecturally significant heritage buildings, to modern, complex, and award-winning structures.
Reporting to the Head of Electrical Services, you will lead the strategic planning, operational delivery, and continuous improvement of the University’s PAT testing services to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable campus environment. You will manage a dedicated in-house team of professionals, overseeing the rigorous visual inspection and testing of all new and existing electrical appliances in strict alignment with legislative requirements and institutional standards. By establishing effective retesting frequencies and driving service efficiencies, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the high-quality infrastructure necessary to support world-class teaching, research, and the overall student experience.
Main duties and responsibilities

Act as the primary technical expert on PAT testing, determining testing frequencies and providing authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure all works, whether completed in-house or via external partners, strictly adhere to ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) standards, as well as statutory health and safety regulations.
Manage the "fail" process for equipment, ensuring hazardous items are labeled, neutralized, and removed from service in coordination with departmental contacts.
Maintain the University’s Shared Equipment database, ensuring all new assets are captured, scheduled, and accurately reported on to departmental stakeholders.
Build collaborative relationships across academic and professional departments to ensure service delivery with minimal operational impact.
Act as the lead contact for complex queries and dispute resolution, representing the University in external industry forums, regulatory bodies, and in the commercial management of service contracts.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
