Role Overview
The Workshop Technician plays a hands-on, technical role within Urban Moto, supporting the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) across all workshop-based activities. This position is central to maintaining high standards of product quality, technical diagnostics, and aftersales support. The technician will work directly on motorcycles, electric motorcycles, components, and assemblies, and will ensure bikes are correctly prepared and safe for dispatch to dealers and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Workshop Operations
- Perform hands-on diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and technical evaluations on motorcycles and electric motorcycles.
- Conduct strip-downs, component checks, and root-cause investigations on warranty parts and returned components.
- Support the CTO with technical testing, product assessments, and validation work.
- Prepare bikes for dispatch, ensuring units are built, checked, tested, and presented to a high standard before leaving the warehouse.
- Ensure all workshop tasks meet high standards of safety, accuracy, and documentation.
Warranty Support & Quality Control
- Assist with the assessment and analysis of warranty claims by inspecting failed parts and documenting findings.
- Prepare warranty items for return to factories, including packaging, labelling, and record-keeping.
- Capture accurate technical data to support quality assurance and product improvement efforts.
Dealer & Customer Technical Support
- Support the CTO in responding to dealer technical queries, providing clear and well-documented troubleshooting steps when required.
- Participate in remote diagnostics via photos, videos, or submitted fault information.
- Prepare and maintain demo units, workshop bikes, and technical reference stock.
Factory Liaison & Product Feedback
- Assist in creating technical reports, photos, and documentation for submission to overseas manufacturing partners.
- Help gather data on recurring issues, component failures, and opportunities for product enhancement.
Workshop Organisation & Administration
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workshop environment.
- Organise tools, parts, and technical equipment to professional standards.
- Log workshop activities accurately using internal systems.
- Assist with inventory management of technical parts, test units, and warranty components.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong mechanical or electrical aptitude, ideally with motorcycles, EVs, or similar technology.
- Hands-on experience in diagnostics, mechanical repairs, or technical assembly.
- Ability to follow structured processes and document technical work clearly.
- Competence with basic tools, equipment, and workshop safety practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to support technical discussions.
Desirable
- Familiarity with fault-finding on motors, controllers, batteries, or wiring systems.
- Previous experience in a dealership, workshop, distributor, or technical support environment.
