Job Title: Workshop Fabric Cutter
Reporting to: Workshop Manager
Hours 8am to 5pm - Monday to Friday
(one hour lunch break )
Annual Starting Salary £28,000 pa depending on experience
JD McDougall Ltd is a well-established family run company producing flame retardant textiles and manufactured curtains and drapery to the Theatre, TV and Film Industry for over 100 years. We have an exciting opportunity for a fabric cutter to join our workshop team based in Stratford, East London.
The main responsibility of this role is to cut fabric accurately to the exact measurements required by the customer for each job. We are looking for a practical person who is numerate and competent at measuring and able to follow detailed written instructions. The ideal candidate would have previous experience within the textile industry, but this would also suit someone with experience in other trades involving measuring and cutting such as carpentry. Most importantly the individual will be enthusiastic and willing to learn the skills required to carry out a high-quality level of work.
Key Duties (but not limited to):
- Inspecting all fabric for flaws to ensure fabric is fault-free and of the expected quality before being cut into
- Calculating cutting allowances according to order specifications and checking drawings for bespoke designs to ensure the correct adjustments have been accounted for
- Marking, measuring and cutting of fabrics to accurate measurements for the manufacture of drapes, curtains, floor cloths and other bespoke items as required
- Liaising with the sales team to ensure customer requirements are met
- Operation of other machinery such as eyeleting machines, guillotine and inspection machinery
- Communicate effectively with other workshop team members to ensure specific order requirements are fulfilled and work well as a team so that deadlines are met.
- Check finished items according to quality procedures to ensure all cloths have been manufactured according to the customer’s specific requirements and to a high standard of workmanship before being sent to the customer
- Must be a team player and willing to cover other areas to meet business requirements
All training is provided, and we have an experienced team for you to learn from.
This is a full time, workshop-based role. We have free onsite parking, bicycle racks and we are a short walk from Maryland Station (Elizabeth Line) near Stratford
