As our practice continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to join our accounts team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to take on a varied and rewarding role with significant client responsibility, whilst helping to develop and support the next generation of accounting professionals within the firm.
We have a varied customer base throughout the UK, from owner-managed businesses and family companies to more complex corporate groups. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing client relationships, delivering high-quality accounting and taxation services, and ensuring the efficient operation of the accounts team.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant, with experience gained within a professional practice environment. You will be comfortable managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing assignments from planning through to completion, and providing guidance and support to more junior team members.
You will enjoy building strong client relationships and taking a proactive approach to helping clients meet their financial and business objectives. The role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their career within a growing firm.
Main Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of clients across a broad range of sectors.
- Preparation and review of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and group structures.
- Preparation and review of management accounts and other forms of financial reporting.
- Preparation and review of corporation tax computations and returns.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients.
- Identifying opportunities to add value to clients through advisory and support services.
- Managing workflow and deadlines across a portfolio of assignments to ensure a consistently high standard of client service.
- Supervising, mentoring and developing junior members of the accounts team.
- Reviewing work prepared by trainees and junior staff, providing constructive feedback and technical support.
- Supporting the directors with more complex accounting, tax and advisory matters.
- Keeping up to date with developments in accounting standards, taxation and professional regulations.
Requirements
- Previous experience working within a practice environment.
- Demonstrable experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and taxation for owner-managed businesses.
- Demonstrable experience of reviewing the work of junior staff and of providing training, support and mentoring.
- Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting platforms, including Xero and/or QuickBooks Online.
- Excellent IT skills, including the Microsoft 365 suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong organisational and personal time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in dealing directly with clients and other professional advisers.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering work to a consistently high standard.
