We're looking for a passionate, adaptable and energetic Youth Development Mentor to join our North West team in Merseyside. You'll work directly with young people who are experiencing school exclusion or are at risk of it, using sport, mentoring and workshops to build trusted relationships and help them develop confidence, life skills, wellbeing and positive next steps.
This is a hands-on role for someone with experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or teaching, ideally with excluded or disengaged young people. You'll be comfortable delivering sessions in schools, alternative provision and community settings, supporting young people one-to-one and in groups, and working closely with schools and partners.
You don't need rugby knowledge, just a willingness to get stuck in, communicate confidently and bring a trauma-informed, asset-based approach to your work. You'll be organised, calm under pressure and able to manage reporting, safeguarding and impact data as part of day-to-day delivery.

Youth Development Mentor

£25,000–£30,000
Full time, 37.5 hours per week, including two evenings per week until 9pm. Based in Merseyside, with daily travel to delivery sites and some working from home. We are especially keen to hear from people who live in or near the communities we serve.
Essential: Level 2 qualification in sports coaching, youth work or equivalent, plus a valid driving licence or reliable access to transport.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you'll deliver engaging sport-based mentoring sessions and workshops for young people who are excluded from, or at risk of exclusion from, education. You'll build trusted relationships, support young people one-to-one and in groups, work closely with schools and community partners, and help participants develop confidence, wellbeing, life skills and positive next steps. You'll also play an important part in safeguarding, reporting and capturing impact so every young person receives consistent, high-quality support.

You'll probably thrive in this role if you have experience working with young people through youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or teaching, and you're confident building trusted relationships with those who may be excluded, disengaged or facing barriers in education. We're looking for someone who brings energy, empathy and adaptability, can work in a trauma-informed and asset-based way, and is comfortable communicating with young people, schools and partners.
You'll also need to be organised, self-motivated and calm under pressure, with the admin discipline to keep on top of reporting, data and safeguarding requirements. A Level 2 qualification in sports coaching, youth work or equivalent is needed, as well as a valid driving licence or reliable access to transport. Just as importantly, you'll be a team player who stays connected to the wider organisation and is comfortable working flexibly in a small charity environment — no rugby knowledge is required.

At Dallaglio RugbyWorks, we support young people 12-18 who have been excluded from education or at risk of exclusion. Using sport as the starting point and mentoring as the foundation, we help them build confidence, resilience and the skills they need to create brighter futures. Rugby helps start the relationship, but the work goes far beyond sport. The charity uses mentoring, life skills, wellbeing support and career-focused activities to help young people build confidence and prepare for life after school.
Our work focuses on four areas: life skills, raising aspirations, physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing and the aim is to make sure exclusion from school does not become exclusion from society. You'll be part of a team giving young people consistent support, trusted adults and practical chances to move towards education, employment or training.
