The Role
Fortem, part of the Willmott Dixon Group, were established in 2002. We specialise in capital and retrofit programmes within the social housing sector and are specialists in works to low / mid /high rise buildings.
Due to our continued growth, we are recruiting 3 Site Managers to work on two projects and be based from our Birmingham Projects division. Each Site Manager will be responsible for coordinating multiple workstreams within occupied residential buildings, overseeing specialist subcontractors, maintaining programme, quality and health and safety standards and ensuring the works are delivered in accordance with Employer's Requirements, PAS 2030/2035 and all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
These are permanent roles, with core working days are Monday to Friday. It is envisaged that the candidates will live within travel distance of Birmingham and we are looking to appoint as soon as possible.
The Customer
The first project for Birmingham City Council, will comprise the £33m refurbishment and retrofit of six occupied, Y-shaped six storey low-rise residential blocks. Each of two Site Managers will take responsibility for the delivery of works across three of the six blocks, managing all day-to-day site operations from mobilisation through to completion. The works include full roof replacement with cut-to-fall insulation, extensive scaffolding operations, replacement of all windows, external wall insulation systems with rendered and brick-slip finishes, walkway and balcony curtain walling enclosures, fire stopping, sprinkler adaptations, lighting and extract alterations, reinstatement of external landscaping and comprehensive internal works.
The third Site Manager, will take responsibility for the £6m refurbishment and retrofit of three further low-rise residential blocks, with a scope similar to the above.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, effective and timely delivery of the Retrofit/Construction and external refurbishment projects (e.g. EWI/External Wall Insulation, Cladding, Roofing, doors/windows).
- Lead and manage a team of direct and sub-contracted Construction and Trades staff.
- Reporting into the Project Manager you will have direct responsibility for operational Site Management
- To lead, assess and be responsible for all retrofit/construction works with the Projects division.
- Ensure that Company Health & Safety Policies and procedures are strictly adhered to and work closely with Health & Safety Managers and Advisor's
- Maintain and produce, on request, up-to-date Health & Safety records
- Ensure all Environmental and Waste Management Policies are adhered to
- Ensure that all staff, sub-contractors and visitors to the site are appropriately inducted
- Fully comply with the Company’s Customer Satisfaction Policy and Procedures
- Ensure all directly employed personnel work within the required specification and adhere to general Company Policies
- Ensure that procedures and controls laid down by the Company are fully implemented by all site personnel
- Motivate, support and manage directly employed site staff. Provide training, coaching, appraisal and support as required to improve the performance of directly employed site staff
- Ensure site presentation is maintained at the correct standard at all times.
- Organise regular site meetings and pre-plan and ensure efficient usage of all resources
What You Will Need
Essential
Proven experience of managing construction projects
- Proven experience of working on high/low rise properties
- Experience of managing direct and sub contracted construction/refurbishment staff
- Minimum level 4 qualification (NVQ4 or HNC) or equivalent experience
- SMSTS
- Scaffold inspection
- CSCS card
- Asbestos awareness (duty to manage would be desirable).
- Full UK driving licence
- Excellent communication skills
