Help us create unforgettable outdoor birthday parties
The Outdoors Project runs high-energy children’s birthday parties packed with games, adventure, teamwork and fun.
We are recruiting enthusiastic and dependable Birthday Party Leaders to join our growing team. This is a brilliant role for someone who loves working with children, is comfortable speaking to parents and wants flexible weekend work with the potential to grow into a regular source of income.
We provide the session plans, equipment, training and booking information. You bring the energy, personality and professionalism that make each party feel special.
The role
You will deliver pre-planned outdoor birthday parties at our sites in Lewes and Great Walstead, near Haywards Heath. Some parties may also take place at private venues elsewhere in Sussex, agreed with you in advance.
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing and setting up the party area and equipment
- Welcoming the birthday family and explaining how the party will run
- Leading outdoor games and activities with confidence and energy
- Creating a fun, inclusive and positive atmosphere
- Managing children’s behaviour calmly and safely
- Communicating clearly and professionally with parents
- Keeping the party running to time
- Packing down and checking equipment at the end
- Representing The Outdoors Project professionally from start to finish
Hours and availability
Saturdays are our busiest party day, so regular Saturday availability is essential. Sunday and school-holiday availability would be a strong advantage.
Typical shifts include:
- One party: approximately three hours – around £45
- Two parties: approximately six hours – around £90
- Full party day: up to 9¾ hours, usually 8:45am–6:30pm – up to £150
Hours vary according to party bookings. Some weekends may offer a full day of work, while others may offer a single party or no work.
You can book off dates in advance for existing commitments, but we are looking for people who can work the majority of Saturdays and give us clear, reliable availability.
There may also be opportunities to work at Sunday parties, school-holiday clubs and after-school clubs.
September training
Successful applicants will be trained across both of our main party sites:
- Saturday 19 September – Great Walstead, near Haywards Heath
- Saturday 26 September – Lewes
You will learn how to deliver our party activities, manage groups safely, communicate with families, set up equipment and create an excellent experience from beginning to end.
Applicants should be available for both training dates. Following successful training and completion of the necessary recruitment and safeguarding checks, you will begin supported party delivery from October.
Who we are looking for
You could be a great fit if you are:
- Energetic, enthusiastic and positive
- Confident leading and engaging groups of children
- Friendly and comfortable communicating with parents
- Reliable, punctual and well organised
- Calm and sensible when plans change
- Happy working outdoors throughout the year
- Available for the majority of Saturdays
- Able to travel reliably to Lewes and Great Walstead
- Committed to providing excellent customer service
Previous experience with children is helpful, but it is not essential. You might already work in sports coaching, education, childcare, holiday clubs, outdoor activities, drama, entertainment or customer service—or simply have the confidence and personality to become a brilliant party leader.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
What we provide
- £15 per hour
- Up to £146.25 for a full party day
- Full training across both party venues
- Pre-planned and tested party sessions
- All equipment needed to deliver the parties
- Clear booking information before each shift
- Support from an experienced team
- Opportunities for additional weekend, holiday and weekday work
- An active, enjoyable and rewarding role with room to grow
Important information
Birthday parties are a special occasion for children and their families. We need people who take pride in arriving prepared, delivering an excellent session and giving every family a positive experience.
The hours are flexible and depend on party bookings, so this role does not provide guaranteed fixed hours every week. However, there is strong potential for regular weekend and school-holiday work as our party programme grows.
Appointments are subject to satisfactory references, proof of the right to work in the UK and the appropriate safeguarding and DBS checks.
