Job Summary
The Electrical Technician is responsible for attending solar sites and carrying out planned preventative maintenance, as well as responding promptly to equipment breakdowns, to ensure minimal disruption to operations across the O&M portfolio. The role involves diagnosing faults on solar PV systems and associated electrical infrastructure, performing repairs, and inspecting work during and upon completion to maintain high performance and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Fault Response
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with scheduled requirements
- Respond promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime
- Diagnose faults, carry out repairs where necessary, and verify satisfactory system performance
- Inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure quality standards are met
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company health and safety policies and industry standards
- Recognise and assess risks, escalating findings and concerns to management as appropriate
Stock, Materials & Resource Management
- Review stock levels of supplies and equipment and request specialist components, fixtures, or fittings as required
- Monitor usage and advise management on stock requirements, levels, and associated costs
Reporting & Documentation
- Accurately document all work undertaken and maintain daily activity reports
- Record progress of tasks and maintain clear communication on site activities
Training, Development & Collaboration
- Participate in and deliver on-the-job training to colleagues where appropriate
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, including members of the public
- Participate in internal and external meetings as required
- Undertake personal training and development to maintain and improve technical competence
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending enhancements and modifications
Requirements
- Must hold 18th Edition Electrical Regulations qualification
- Must hold a Level 3 Electrical qualification
- HV Authorised Person (preferred but not essential - training can be provided)
- Must have been in a similar role for a minimum of 2 years
- Worked on large-scale solar projects (preferred)
- Experience of working with central inverter manufacturers (preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and DC electrical systems
- Experience in fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and equipment troubleshooting
- Must have a valid UK driving licence
Pay: Up to £43,000.00 per year
