We are recruiting for an experienced Canteen Chef to help lead the kitchen team in Aldermaston the area. You will be responsible mainly for daily kitchen duties, supporting the team with menu planning and food preparation, while ensuring all health and safety standards are maintained to the highest level. You will be expected to work with the Senior Catering Manager and Group Head Chef to deliver an excellent onsite catering experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and cooking a wide variety of fresh meals to a rotating daily and weekly menu
- Leading kitchen duties in collaboration with the Manager and Kitchen Assistants
- Maintaining excellent hygiene and food safety standards in line with company policies and statutory regulations
- Managing quality and portion control to ensure consistency in service
- Storing and labelling ingredients safely and efficiently
- Supporting the development of menu ideas and innovation to suit site needs
- Monitoring stock levels and minimising food waste
- Supporting with training , coaching and motivating junior staff
- Creating a positive and productive kitchen environment under time pressure
Skills and Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years' working experience in a similar role as this is a really busy canteen site
- Passion for fresh, wholesome food with attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask within the busy site
- Strong leadership, communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
- Strong knowledge of Food Safety and Health & Safety policies
- Flexibility to work across various shifts (including occasional weekend shifts)
The role is for an immediate start.
Working hours:
General hours: shifts between Monday - Friday, 6.30am - 4.30pm, Saturday 6.30am - 12.30pm (you will be on the rota to work 2 x Saturdays a month)

DUE TO LOCATION OWN TRANSPORT IS ESSENTIAL - the site is not accessible by public transport or on foot.
DUE TO OUR CLIENTS REQUIREMENTS YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING AS WELL AS A DBS CHECK.
Please note: we require all staff to have the following qualifications before we can get them in the kitchen:
Allergen Awareness and Food Intolerances
COSHH Awareness for Hospitality
Food Hygiene and Safety Level 2 for Catering (Level 3 for Chefs)
If you don’t already have these, please do not worry; we can set you up on our online learning platform (Tayl). Each course only takes around 30 minutes to complete, and once done, they are yours to keep!
