Manual Vertical Borer Setter/Operator – Night Shift
Location: Ashton-Under-Lyne
Salary: Up to £20.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level
Shift: Monday–Thursday, 18:00–06:00
Shift Premium: +⅓ night shift allowance
Overtime: Available Friday, Saturday & Sunday at +½ overtime rate
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Manual Vertical Borer Setter/Operator to join an established engineering business on a permanent night shift.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced machinist with a strong vertical boring or turning background who is confident working from engineering drawings and producing medium to heavy-sized components.
The Role
As a Manual Vertical Borer Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for setting and operating manual vertical boring machinery to manufacture medium and heavy workpieces to customer specifications.
You will be expected to work independently, maintain high standards of quality and accurately inspect your own work.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate manual vertical boring machines
- Manufacture medium to heavy engineering components
- Work accurately from customer drawings and specifications
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds and feeds
- Carry out setting and machining operations to required tolerances
- Self-inspect completed work using appropriate measuring equipment
- Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy
- Follow company Health & Safety procedures
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Work effectively with colleagues and production teams
- Complete overtime when required to meet production demands
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced machinist with:
- Previous experience setting and operating manual vertical borers
- Alternatively, a strong manual turning background may be considered
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience machining medium to heavy workpieces
- Good understanding of machining processes, tooling, speeds and feeds
- Ability to accurately self-inspect your own work
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Reliable and hardworking approach
- Ability to work independently
- Flexibility to work overtime when required
Working Hours & Pay
Night Shift:
Monday – Thursday: 18:00–06:00
- 4 x 12-hour shifts
- Paid lunch break
- Night shift paid at T+⅓
- Basic rate of up to £20.00 per hour, dependent on skills and experience
- Overtime available Friday after 13:00, Saturday and Sunday
- Weekend overtime paid at T+½
