Company Overview
Bondcare is a distinguished provider of award-winning care homes and nursing homes dedicated to delivering the highest standards of assisted living. Our mission is to create comfortable, dignified environments for all residents, including those requiring specialized care, while ensuring staff are well-trained to uphold excellence in care.
A Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAP) is a skilled care worker who bridges the gap between traditional care assistants and nurses, performing clinical tasks under supervision to enhance resident care.
Role and Responsibilities
CHAPs work in care homes to support residents with both personal and clinical care. Their duties often include:
- Clinical care tasks: wound dressing, pressure relief, catheter and stoma care, clinical observations, diabetes management, and medication administration.
- Supportive care: assisting with daily activities, promoting independence, and providing person-centered care.
- Leadership and guidance: mentoring less experienced care workers and acting as a point of contact for advice within the care team.
- CHAPs operate under the direction of registered nurses but can perform trained clinical tasks independently, improving continuity and quality of care while easing nursing workload pressures
Training and Certification
To become a CHAP, candidates must complete additional training and obtain certification, typically valid for three years. Training covers:
- Clinical observations and vital signs monitoring
- Tissue viability, wound care, and pressure relief
- Venepuncture and blood sugar monitoring
- Medication administration and syringe driver use
- Catheter and stoma care, dysphagia, and diabetes management
- Training can be completed online or in-person, with assessments ensuring competence in clinical procedures
