Ready to Take the Lead? We’re Hiring a Senior IT Engineer
(Full-time, Office-Based, Monday – Friday)
At Black Sheep Support, we’re looking for an experienced Senior IT Engineer to join our growing technical team and help take the business to the next level. With an exciting pipeline of new sales and customer projects, this is a great time to make your mark.
Working alongside our CTO, another Senior IT Engineer, and a small team of engineers, you’ll take the lead on complex technical work while staying close to our customers and the day-to-day operation of the business.
This is a broad, hands-on role in a growing MSP. You’ll deliver projects and resolve complex support issues, but you’ll also be ready to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed – from pre-sales and customer onboarding to billing queries and the support queue. We need a self-starter with a can-do attitude who enjoys variety, takes ownership and wants to make a visible impact.
The Role
As a Senior IT Engineer, you’ll take ownership of customer outcomes from the first technical conversation through to implementation, handover and ongoing support. You’ll ensure work is well planned, clearly communicated, documented and delivered to a high standard.
No two days will look exactly the same. The role combines project delivery, third-line support, customer relationship management and the practical commercial tasks that keep a growing MSP running smoothly.
You’ll be a senior, trusted member of a close-knit team: confident working independently, generous with your knowledge and willing to step into whatever needs attention. You’ll support and mentor colleagues, improve our ways of working and help us scale without losing the personal service our customers value.
The role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to customer sites across the UK. There will also be occasional planned out-of-hours work for project implementations where this minimises disruption to our clients.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning the technical delivery of customer projects from discovery and planning through to implementation, documentation and handover
- Designing, implementing and supporting Microsoft 365 Modern Workplace environments
- Managing and supporting Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Intune and Windows environments
- Configuring networking equipment, firewalls and wireless solutions
- Improving customers’ security posture across identity, devices, email, cloud services and networks
- Providing third-line support for complex customer issues and helping the team keep support tickets moving
- Building strong client relationships, understanding requirements and recommending practical, commercially appropriate solutions
- Supporting technical discovery and pre-sales, including scoping solutions, contributing to proposals and setting clear expectations
- Leading customer onboarding and ensuring new clients, users and services transition smoothly into support
- Supporting and mentoring other engineers, sharing knowledge and improving technical standards and processes
- Helping with billing and account queries by checking technical details, clarifying work completed and ensuring customers receive accurate information
- Pitching in across the support queue and wider business when priorities change – no “that’s not my job” mentality
What We Offer
- Starting salary of £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
- Up to 5 additional days off through our attendance reward scheme
- Life Assurance after 12 months of service
- Health Insurance after 2 years of service
- Early finish on Fridays, birthday leave, regular incentives & team socials
- Fully stocked kitchen and recreation area with free snacks and drinks
- Training and certification support, including Microsoft Certified Professional training program – Modern Work
- Genuine career progression – we’re passionate about promoting from within
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, solves problems calmly and builds long-term relationships with customers. You’ll understand that, in a growing company, seniority means being willing to get involved – whether the priority is a complex migration, a customer call, an urgent ticket or resolving a billing query.
You’ll have experience working for an MSP or managed IT services provider and understand the pace, ownership and customer focus the environment demands. You’ll be comfortable balancing independent project delivery with the changing priorities of a busy technical and customer-facing team.
You’ll have:
- Previous experience in a Senior IT Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or equivalent role
- Demonstrable experience working within an MSP or managed IT services environment, with an understanding of the full customer lifecycle from pre-sales and onboarding through to ongoing support and renewal
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 Modern Workplace, Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Intune and Windows Server
- Experience with networking, firewalls and wireless technologies
- A strong understanding of cyber security fundamentals, including identity, endpoint, email, cloud and network security
- Excellent troubleshooting skills across hardware, software and networking
- Outstanding communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to speak to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- The judgement to manage multiple priorities, communicate trade-offs and follow work through to completion
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach; a self-starter with a can-do attitude and a genuine willingness to much in and help the wider team
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, as occasional travel to customer sites is required
