Jewish Care is looking for an experienced and compassionate End of Life Care Trainer to help strengthen the knowledge, skills and confidence of colleagues delivering end-of-life care across our residential and nursing services.

This post is for 16 hours per week | 2 days per week fixed term for 12 months.
About the role
As our End of Life Care Trainer, you will design, deliver and evaluate high-quality education and development programmes to support colleagues across Jewish Care’s residential and nursing services.
You will help nursing, care and support staff develop the confidence and competence to provide compassionate, dignified and person-centred care to residents during the final stages of life. You will ensure that learning reflects current best practice, national guidance and regulatory requirements, while supporting colleagues to translate training into meaningful improvements in day-to-day care.
Using a range of learning methods, including face-to-face training, workshops, e-learning, coaching and simulation-based learning, you will deliver engaging and accessible education tailored to the needs of our diverse workforce.
Training will cover key areas including:
- Communicating sensitively with residents and families
- Advance care planning and supporting discussions around future care wishes
- Recognising deterioration and the final stages of life
- Supporting residents to remain in their preferred place of care wherever possible
- Providing emotional and spiritual support
- Understanding loss, grief and bereavement
- Supporting staff to manage complex and emotionally challenging situations
You will also act as a role model for compassionate end-of-life care, providing coaching, mentorship and practical guidance to colleagues and teams.
Working collaboratively
- You will work closely with the End of Life and Palliative Care Lead, care home teams and multidisciplinary colleagues, as well as GPs, hospices and external palliative care providers.
- Building strong relationships across services will be an important part of the role, helping to promote joined-up care, share best practice and support continuous improvement.
- You may also contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives, policy development and the ongoing review of end-of-life care training and resources.
You will be a Registered General Nurse with a specialist qualification in palliative or end-of-life care. You will have experience of working in a care home, hospice or community setting, together with a strong background in staff training, education, coaching or mentoring.
You will have a good understanding of the needs and complexities of older people, including dementia, frailty and multiple long-term conditions. You will also be confident supporting conversations around advance care planning, Lasting Power of Attorney and DNAR decisions.
- Experience of developing and delivering training programmes
- A recognised teaching, training or assessor qualification, such as a Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to support sensitive and compassionate conversations with residents and families
- Experience of coaching, mentoring and supporting colleagues
- Knowledge of safeguarding, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty legislation
- The ability to influence practice and support positive change across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic care planning systems
- A calm, compassionate and empathetic approach
- Emotional resilience and the ability to support others through distressing and sensitive situations
- A strong commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, choices and wishes of older people
A teaching or mentoring qualification and experience of service development or quality improvement would be advantageous. Experience of working with the Jewish community and an understanding of Jewish spirituality would also be welcomed.
This role will involve travel between Jewish Care services as required.
