Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Assistant Manager or Manager with Barista Experience to join our small leadership team in an independent coffee shop. You’ll work alongside our existing Assistant Manager and the Ops Manager, for running shifts, leading the team, and driving sales and standards.
This role is ideal for a current Coffee Shop Manager / Assistant Manager, Café Supervisor, Barista Supervisor or Retail Manager who enjoys a hands-on role on the shop floor and wants to be part of a collaborative management team.
Duties
- Lead daily coffee shop / café operations: opening and closing, cashing up, rotas, stock control and ordering.
- Act as a duty manager on shift: take the lead on service, delegate tasks and ensure smooth, efficient operations during your shifts.
- Work as a senior barista: dial in espresso, prepare high-quality drinks, maintain equipment and coach others on coffee standards.
- Share responsibility for supervising and developing the team: brief staff, support training, give feedback and help manage performance.
- Help plan and deliver local marketing and promotions – seasonal drinks, in-store offers, loyalty ideas, events and collaborations that grow footfall and sales.
- Monitor key metrics (daily sales, labour, waste, average transaction value) and work with the management team to improve results.
- Ensure all health & safety, food hygiene and company policies are understood, followed and role-modelled.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness across the kitchen and service areas
- Train staff on food production techniques, customer service excellence, and safety protocols
- Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and manage stock to minimize waste while maximizing quality
- Support the development of team members through coaching, feedback, and leadership opportunities
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have strong barista experience in a busy coffee shop, café or specialty coffee environment.
- Have previous experience as an assistant manager, supervisor, team leader or manager in hospitality or retail, ideally within a coffee shop or café.
- Enjoy working as part of a management team – you’re collaborative and open to feedback.
- Are confident leading a shift: setting the pace, solving problems and supporting the team when it’s busy.
- Are commercially aware and comfortable with sales targets, upselling, promotions and basic reporting.
- Communicate clearly and positively with colleagues and customers, and help maintain a supportive, high-performance culture.
- Are organised, reliable and flexible to work a rota including early starts, weekends and peak trading periods.

- 6 days out of 7, including weekends and early starts
Pay: £29,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
