The Vacancy
Heavy haulage trailer technician responsible for maintaining our specialist fleet of STGO and HGV trailers to the highest safety and compliance standards, ensuring maximum vehicle availability.
Main Responsibilities

Carry out routine inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGV and STGO trailers in accordance with DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards.

Complete safety inspections and preventative maintenance activities in line with planned maintenance schedules.

Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard whilst minimising vehicle downtime.

Complete defect reports, job cards, inspection sheets, and compliance documentation accurately and within required timescales.

Undertake welding, fabrication, and trailer modifications where qualified and required.

Assist with roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs as necessary.

Liaise effectively with drivers, transport operations, and management regarding vehicle defects, repair requirements, and maintenance schedules.

Order, source, and manage parts and workshop consumables as required.

Support the maintenance and compliance of specialist equipment, including abnormal load trailers, steering systems, hydraulic equipment, and ancillary transport equipment.

Ensure all vehicles and trailers meet legal roadworthiness requirements at all times.

Promote and maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop and yard areas.

Adhere to all Health & Safety, environmental, and company procedures.

Participate in training and development activities to maintain technical knowledge and industry compliance.

Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing fleet reliability, workshop efficiency, and safety performance.

Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
Experience
-
Previous experience as an HGV or Trailer Technician preferred.

Experience maintaining specialist transport equipment and abnormal load trailers desirable.
Qualifications
-
Proven experience working as an HGV Technician, Trailer Technician, or equivalent.
-
Experience working on specialist trailers, low loaders, extendable trailers, or STGO equipment would be highly advantageous.

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.

Good understanding of DVSA regulations, roadworthiness standards, and maintenance compliance requirements.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Welding and fabrication experience (desirable).

Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic workshop management systems.

IRTEC Inspection Technician Accreditation and/or Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Qualification (preferred).
